Catless downpipe and smell/fumes in connected garage.

So basically my house has a connected garage.

Here's my worry. Will a catless downpipe cause excessive fumes, and exhaust smell to enter My house?

I dont idle, or warmup my car in the garage. Basically, I start the car and exit straight away and close the garage door. And when I enter the garage I enter, and quickly turn off my car and leave the door open for 5 minutes.

I know a cold cat in an OEM downpipe is totally ineffective during the first 3 minutes before heating up. I'm not worried too much about the smell when driving because my nose can't smell anything in general as I lack the sense of smell, my only concern is my garage.

Any experience or insight from anybody? Appreciated.

No it will not. It’s very illegal for conditioned air to mix with air that is in a room with a garage door of any sort. It prevents CO from entering your house if the car and furnace are running at the same time

So if I read correctly. Are you saying the CO does not dispel from the exhaust when the car is turned off? Or the garage door itself stops CO from entering?

Im saying that the CO inside the garage will not enter the breathable air inside via and ductwork. Obviously don’t leave your big garage door shut and don’t leave the door to enter the garage from your house open

Ah! I totally get it now. Thanks! I follow all those precautions, I'm very strict when it comes to opening and closing the garage door when starting the car.

I feel a little more at ease reading your post. Downpipe is the last part I need to complete my car and I've been reading hundreds of posts on car forums for the past 6 months now trying to figure it out ?

Was catless on my old Beamer, just leave right away like you say and it’s fine. If someone enters the garage maybe they’ll get a quick whiff but the smell doesn’t last at all. Don’t sit there idling the thing

No problem. I’m a master HVAC tech in America but I assume the laws are very similar. No worries

If you ever start your lawnmower inside your garage, you have an idea of the smell, and how long it takes to dissipate. Per a previous post, the cat has to heat up to do its thing, so you are already probably smelling the same fumes either with or without cat on startup.

I have three catless cars. It's no issue inside the home, and no issue in an open garage unless I'm idling for quite a while.

All the performance parts shops I've spoken to are saying the same things. I guess I didnt want to believe them since they are out to make money lol.

I’ve been catless for awhile. I don’t notice the smell anymore. It use to smell but the bitch is gone.

Got to smell exhaust fumes until I was 10 when cats became required. My kids might think that is the explanation for my faults, but I didn't care about the smell then and won't now.
