Figured I'd share a lil experience I had a day or so ago during my trip in Japan! I booked a 9hr rental for the White R34 GTR at the Omoshiro Noda Head Office!
For the whole day (the office is open from 10-7 so 9hrs = whole day) it was ~$230 so not too bad. All I needed was my passport, an international driver's license (make sure its from AAA, there are a couple others that aren't accepted), and the reservation itself.
The car itself has definitely seen better days but hey, for a GTR that's been used and abused and sitting at 340k km I can't complain
The car itself is actually pretty modified with tomei cams, ti exhaust, endless BBK, nismo LSD, nismo lightweight flywheel, BBS wheels, and an overhauled trans with VERY stiff bushings. They specifically mention the overhauled trans and the bushings as well as saying "it is ok if you aim and shift firmly." Boy they weren't kidding about firm, this was the notchiest shifter I've ever used in my life. You basically had to chuck it into each gear I'm glad I practiced shifting with my left hand using my sim rig or that would've been tough. The other thing to note was the alignment was VERY funky, the car would pull here and there somewhat randomly so I drove fairly cautiously.
Anyway, with the cams, the car was fairly numb below 3.5k but at 3.5 the cam profile and boost both come in and you just ride the wave to 8. It felt fantastic. When the alignment wasn't doing its own thing, turn in was great as well. The sound from the rb and the ti exhaust was perfect, not obnoxious but present. And when you let off you got rewarded with the stereotypical "tsutsutsu" noise.
I drove from the office promptly to a 7/11 then to Tsukuba Circuit to peruse and take pics. Definitely going to try snd come back for an Attack Tsukuba event someday. From there I went to Tsukuba winery, up the fruits line route (apparently it's a route in Initial D but I can't remember which battle), then to Veilside, and finally back to the office. It was a fantastic day trip and I even made a couple friends along the way. Stopped at a little old lady's fruit stand and bought a persimmon from her and ended up with 2 because she insisted on giving me another and said she liked the car and even cruised with a dude in a zenki s14 on the highway!
Overall it was an awesome experience and I will definitely rent another car the next time I go. But maybe something smaller, rhe r34 was wayyy too much car on the fruits line lol. Here's the link if you're interested:

EDIT: once I'm back I'll post a link to some fpv gopro footage I got while driving!
