Definitely shouldn’t be any sort of gap! Should sit 100% flush, if you need some assistance feel free to shoot me a message and I’ll show you how mine sits!

I would suggest removing the misfit spoiler while the tape is fresh.

Clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol (hatch and underside of the spoiler).

Replace 3M tape on the underside of the spoiler.

Remove the 3M tape backing and spray the tape area with a mixture of 25% rubbing alcohol and 75% water in a new spray bottle. This allows you slide the spoiler around to assure the perfect fit without immediate adhesion.

Once in place... press aggressively on the spoiler to adhere. Then wipe off the excess moisture and use wide blue painters tape to secure until the fluid beneath dries (24 hours or so). Some sort of weight on top wouldn't hurt. Press on the spoiler again to firmly adhere.

Set the car in the sun for a short while and you will be good to go!

I would place the tape all the way around the perimeter edges.

Also test fit the spoiler without the tape to assure it fits flush against the hatch. Some aftermarket spoilers can just be a bad mold or poor fit.

Additionally you should leave gaps in your tape on the low points so rain/wash water can drain out. Allowing water to collect under the duckbill will not end well.
Don't worry about the adhesive letting loose. 3M tapes are amazing.
Cheers and good luck!

Just adding:

Before you take off the tape backing - mockup the spoiler on the trunk. The spoiler should fit naturally and flush on all sides. Use blue painters tape to outline the spoiler on the trunk for ease of installation and centering.

When you’re ready to install, get the spoiler aligned on the trunk with the tape backing still on, start peeling a corner while pressing the spoiler on the trunk and keep peeling until it’s all done. This will help with keeping things aligned (along with the blue painters tape).

I suspect from your picture that the spoiler is placed too superiorly and not resting upon the top of the lid.

What particular spoiler are you running? Any other images?
