I ended up caving and going the diy route I posted. It actually helped so much, needs a minor adjustment and then I think it’ll be perfectly straight. I really wanted to do it the proper way and get an alignment to fix it. But with no trustworthy alignment shop close to me I feel like I couldn’t justify taking a couple hour drive for an alignment, and ngl was kinda worried I’d get the same result/told the same thing.
Glad you were able to get it sorted - it's on my to do list as well. Such a shame that lots of wheels do require the adjustments to be made 🫠

Unfortunately I'm in Bakersfield ;( so Its a few hours way
spend the time to make the drive and go to Monrovia alignment. Probably 2 hours from you but 100% worth it. He took about 2.5 hours on my car to ensure it was perfect. Even had me sit in it so it was extra perfect. You would be surprised how much the alignment changes with you in the car.
I was getting a crooked wheel by regular alignment shops. Sean is right (and others). I ended up driving about an hour away and they get it right every time. Totally worth it. I go there now or use the mega expensive place closer by that does it by string.

It’s a pain in the ass, but next time just plan on driving and get er dun right 😉

This is why I taught myself how to align my own car with a string kit. I’ve already save so much money and get to have whatever settings I want.

It’s actually surprisingly easy once you get the understanding and practice.

Ironically I get better tire wear now than when I used to pay others for alignment.

If you lean to the right and tilt your head a little, the wheel will appear straight. I suggest leaning on your right elbow, maybe on the cupholder.

fr: I was surprised how many places around me didn't have the right equipment to properly align a MKV Supra. Either they were too nervous to do it or they actually told the truth when they said they couldn't. Either way it was shocking.

What products and resources do you use to learn? Been thinking about this since I got QJ.

What different equipment do they need? The supra aligns like any other car, and def like every modern BMW.

I asked [pretty much] the same thing. Only answer I ever got was "we're not equipped to do alignments on the Supra." Found a Goodyear shop near the house that could do it. I thought it was ridiculous.

Yea, I think eventually when I do need new tires (not anytime soon, only at 1600 miles rn) I’ll take the couple hour drive and get a proper alignment from a reputable place.

Were the alignment specs not good that I posted? I thought the DIY solution shouldn’t affect much as long as I made the same changes to both sides. That was mentioned in the video too that I posted.

As long as your wheel is straight, the car feels good and your happy - Hakuna Matata 👍

Our cars really need a pinpoint accurate alignment. If your tire wear becomes noticeably uneven, you start tracking or you change your mind on the feel, consider an alignment shop with a Hunter alignment machine. They can read and adjust to very specific OEM specs.

Here’s what I found out: “Many newer vehicles require electronic steering angle sensor resets or ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration after an alignment. Standard machines can’t interface with these systems or perform required resets. Hunter’s systems are specially designed to integrate with OEM-reset protocols and ADAS calibrations, reducing the risk of warning lights or performance issues after the alignment”.

That was one of the problems I was having before finding a shop that had one of those machines. It just happened that the owner knew how to work with adjustable arms, tie rods, endlinks, etc. Regardless, those machines can read and adjust to very specific OEM specs. Little variations on our cars are way more noticeable than on many other family transport go getters. They also have massive databases that are kept up-to-date and provide real-time, step-by-step instructions for the shop. Making it easier (less likely to make mistakes) for them to do a very accurate OEM alignment.

Again, if you or someone knows how to dial it in precisely, you’re golden. If not, these Hunter machines are more likely to get it right for you and the shop preforming the alignment.

You are romanticizing alignments way too much. Our cars align like any other cars, and there isn’t really much sorcery to it.

Right!!!! 🧙‍♂️ 😂

I’m just sayin it happened to me. If you can’t do your own, like you, you do run into lots of shops that think they can do it. My steering angle sensor was all mucked up for a while because it wasn’t reset properly. Other times, the car didn’t feel right hard trail braking down from 150 to 80 mph at Sebring. Two shops mentioned I need to find a place with that machine. Another told me about Mr. B’s alignment (odd name I know - in Cape Coma Florida) who has the machine and only one wizard that will work on it there. He won’t let anyone else do it. So I dunno brotha B 🤷‍♂️

The other place does it by hand, like you, and charges an arm and a leg 🦵. So I try not to go there unless I hafta.

You need to open your own shop. I’d swear you’d make a crap ton! You could be like the soup nazi on Seinfeld. No backtalk from anyone or no shop (work) 🔧 for you!!!! I’d go there but you’d probably kick me out right after “Hello” 👋🏼 😜
