So I finally got my images sorted and downloaded the tools but 45Euro just to unlock SSH access for a one time use seems a bit over the top. Ugh.

back in the day I tried to reverse engineer engineer feature installer. What I found were that the keys were generated on an external server so unless we have access to that server and the private keys within it, we’d have to pay for the privilege

Femto can also potentially do this as a part of the unlock but they were not interested in having a conversation when I spoke to them

Yeah.. just taken aback by the pricing. Nobody's fault, except for maybe Feature Installer price gouging.

We think we've got a safe & stable way of doing this for free now. I tried it on a 2018 x3 and it worked.

If anyone is willing to test, always with the caveat of "different versions of iDrive may be different and things may break". Happy to do so, no cost. Just shoot me a DM and we can work through it.
