Need some help with my logs. A few things I noticed but unsure if they’re a problem. More importantly, am I missing anything.
The car runs great WOT as far as feel goes. At lower speeds between 2-3K rpm I has this weird hesitation/surging that happens.

My observations
  • Boost rarely hits Target, even in the tall gears. Usually between 1-2psi under Target. Wondering if I have a small boost leak.
  • If I’m doing a 2 gear pull, the timing is always worse on the second gear. Timing seems to be different for the same gear depending if it was the first or second gear in the pull. IATs shouldn’t be affecting this… in these cases below.
  • Timing pulls seem to be all over the cylinder range. I was expecting more pulls/corrections on cyl6 but that’s not the case.
  • Load actual is roughly half of Target. Not sure if this is an issue.
  • BM3 Flex Blend Factors (ign, fuel, trq) never hits 1 and I went as high as E56/57 (the reading shifted during the run). Even at E57 it was .95, E56 was .93
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

MODs (only engine performance listed)
  • AA DP
  • Eventuri intake
  • FTP charge pipe.
  • BM3 CustomRom
  • BM3 Flex-Fuel kit
  • xHP Stage 3 trans tune

Let’s get the shitty low speed driving log out of the way. I’m not smart enough to figure out the issue but it’s crystal clear from the log, there’s an issue.

The rest are in order from oldest to newest. You will notice in the first log that I don’t have the Ethanol sensor on the CANBUS. I was reading from my fuel-it app.

Noticed towards the end of the log the Pedal is around 50% yet Throttle is at 100%.

09/15/23 MultiMap – Stage 2 5th to 6th E52
Timing looks off in 6th gear. Cyl1 and 2. Hit 16.5deg in 5th gear

09/17/23 MultiMap – Stage 2 3rd to 4th E43
In 5th cyl4 looks low on timing but the data says it’s correcting Cyl6. This confuses me, cause I’m dumb.

I know that’s a lot of logs but wanted to share a variety of gear pulls, IATs, E blends, etc.
Thanks!

I put the most recent log on datazap, because that bm3 log viewer is garbage. https://datazap.me/u/zrk/log-1695299959?log=0&data=1-4-9-14-24-38&solo=1-4-9-38

Looking at this log, I see absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Aside from the low load drivability (which is normal, especially for over-the-counter generic maps), what problems are you having during these pulls?
Thanks for the reply Zach. Only issue I notice is low load drivability like you mentioned.
I haven't tuned a car since 03' and there are a shit ton more parameters to track, monitor, adjust. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something before I get my DAW turbo and EOS mani installed.

You should be fine. I'd definitely splurge for a custom tune once you get those things.

You can send your logs to PTF, see if they can adjust anything and send you another map. They're tuners after all. ;)

They need feedback, I suspect that's how they adjust their maps moving forward.

I was looking at my Stage 2 93 octane 4th gear pull and comparing it to your e46 log. The amount of timing advance on your map, 16(aprx) Vs my 9 is insane, lol. Damn, E does wonders.

Definitely sending them my low speed logs. I need to get one on the stock tune but currently have too much E in the tank. I'll run that out this weekend and goes on straight 93. I'll log the 93 OTS map and the MultiMap to see if there are difference.
I already reached out to PTF, and they said they need that stock log to show those issue aren't present and help them figure out why I'm surging/hesitation.

I'll post logs here when finished and provide an update on working with PTF.

Before I learned the BM3 logging capabilities, I still had my JB4 in the car. On map 0, so I just used it for logs. On the Stage 2 93 OTS map my timing was hitting 14/15. 9 seems low to me.

I can post those logs if anyone wants. To be clear, I was running a BM3 tune but logging with the JB4 (set to map 0)

@zrk DataZap is Money!! thanks for the tip.

Also, what does the RAM prefix mean and should I be using those values. I noticed that's where you pulled engine speed from

Higher speed logging items. Use those when possible. Some also don't have ceiling caps compared to non RAM logging items.

Judging from the low speed logs the throttle issue you are feeling is the ecu modulating torque and boost. seems you're not pressing the pedal enough to populate a boost target (increase torque request) but boost in making 1-3psi based on mechanical load. its fairly normal. but if you feel it a ton then it can be smoothed out. Typically you dont feel this happening.
