He told me they’d need to replace the block since it comes as an assembly. Idk what they did but you’d think since they’ve had it sitting there for a month they would’ve told me sooner but now they want a decision by Saturday if I’m gonna pay 6k plus for the part and then however much more the labor costs.I'm sure you meant Head and not Block. Pics are of the head. And something was bouncing around in that cylinder. Did they snap a plug off in there and send it?
That's the head. Something was definitely bouncing around in there. Likely a plug tip or something. The pictures attached are of the block
At about 59,000 miles, I took my Supra into the dealer with multiple complaints. I mentioned I thought it might be the turbo. They told me it was probably spark plugs (replaced at 40k miles) and a $500 software update. I said I could do the spark plugs, but if they thought the update would fix it, to go ahead. I picked it up, paying around $200 in "diagnosis fees," but it seemed the update wasn't done. The issue got worse, so I called, dropped it off again, and told them to do the spark plugs and update, but I was 99% sure it was something else, like the turbo. The turbo blew as I pulled into the dealer the second time, and it was warranted.
I picked it up, asked about possible engine damage, and was assured it blew on the exhaust side, so no engine damage occurred. I babied it for the first 1000 miles, but it started consuming oil. Though a known issue (about a quart every 3k miles), it got worse, consuming a quart in under 500 miles. I called, and an oil consumption test was started. In under 300 miles, I consumed a quart, so I dropped it off for piston assemblies. They said it wouldn't be warranted due to my breaking in the turbo and doing the oil test. The service manager fought with Toyota for a day, and they agreed to goodwill it, but the dealer wouldn't cover a rental. They wanted over $1000 for R&I aftermarket parts or $500+ for the dealer to switch back to factory parts, or I could do it myself for free. While swapping, I found stripped bolts, a wrongly installed exhaust, a broken intake vacuum line, and one-time-use nuts. This worried me about the recent repair and the upcoming piston assembly repair.
I rushed the drop-off, and they said the repair would start immediately. I called later to confirm parts were there, and they weren't, so it would be a month. Parts arrived early, around 2-3 weeks later, but by then, I bought a new (used) car to avoid rental costs. I dropped it off, heard nothing for about three weeks, then received a text from the tech saying the water pump, rod bearings, and cylinder 6 connecting rod needed replacement, covered but on back order. A week later, the service manager called, noting small block damage at 2 cylinders, quoting $6000 to replace it, as Toyota wouldn't cover it. They described it as small, uncertain about the cause, and unsure if it would pose a problem if not replaced. They offered to build it as is if I preferred.
I tried calling corporate initially for the piston assembly repair, but it wasn't helpful. Now, I plan on emailing them, but I'm uncertain which email will provide assistance. I'm not sure what they can help with, aside from covering the cost. Still, I don't trust the repair. The long story ended up being longer, so I appreciate anyone who read it. If there's advice or assistance, I'd appreciate it. Attached are pictures of the block with "small damage" they claim isn't covered.
No all they said was Toyota will not be good willing anything more than they already have but you’d think this damage would’ve been seen and noted when the other stuff was added." ech saying the water pump, rod bearings, and cylinder 6 connecting rod needed replacement, covered but on back order. What rationale did they provide for covering the pump, bearings, rod BUT not the damage to the block? Because it went from expensive to really expensive? Did they provide you with any justification?
im not trying to pay any of it lol, im currently typing up a whole thing to send to someone who has connects with Toyota corporate and is going to try and set me up a meeting with regional but I appreciate the offer and will let you know if I end up needing your offerYa thats f'd up. I can get you a new motor and do a core exchange for you. Would be cheaper than dealer. Send me a DM.
That's an assumption so I wouldn't try that argument.you’d think this damage would’ve been seen
