While it sounds stupid, it's not really all that wild. I use 3d printed jackstand adapters printed completely solid with PETG. Been using the same set for >2 years and frequently check on them and see zero stress or other signs of failure ?‍♂

EDIT: I should note, this is not my design. And I've also had the car sitting on these through 2 winters in <0°F weather as well.

Yeah, trust your life to some fucking legos....Smart. Legos are only good for stepping on.

Don't wanna pay for a block of plastic? You can make one out of LEGO that you steal from your kids! I've used this LEGO block several times and it has held up phenomenally.

I'd recommend using the thin plates in various sizes: 2x2, 1x3, 2x4, 2x3, etc. These will provide the best crush resistance since there's not much vertical space to crush. When building the block, offsets the plates like a brick wall to add strength. The dimensions you are after are 7x3x10.

After using the block the first time there was some minor bending but it has held up the car repeatedly without any concerns and I've been under the car without feeling like it's gonna come crashing down. Be sure to give your car a wiggle once it has fully rested on the stands and keep your jack ready to take over if it starts cracking.
Take a vice grip to a bunch of those little lego pieces & see how hard you can squeeze until it breaks. Compared to a solid block of the same material & ones sold on the market for a few bucks that have already done this. It be a fantastic test to see how it plays out…

Easy test. Take 3 different weighted hammers (light, medium, heavy) to a bunch of those little lego pieces connected together by those small contact points. See when they break compared to the solid block of the same material. This isn’t my forte but I’m guessing the solid block will withstand greater force with less areas of varying adhesion ?‍♂

I’d personally want the solid block until I did some fun testing ;)
While I see your point, using the hammers would be testing a different load on the adapter. With the hammers it would be shock rather than compressive force. So yeah the Legos would probably crack/explode and maybe even the block but the real use case is setting the car down on these. So less of a sharp, high energy impulse.

It's sort of the same type of thing as that one video of a guy setting down a car on a glass jar hahaha. But rather than a violent failure mode of glass, the plastic would yield more.

Damn…. I refreshed the page, didn’t see your response & updated my question.

I’m getting into this way too much!! How about taking a vice grip to a bunch of those little lego pieces, the solid block of the same material & ones sold on the market? See which can take the most lbs/sq in or whatever they measure pressure in. Or even simpler, measure how far you can squeeze on the vice to all 3. Man it’d be hilarious if the Legos could withstand almost the same amount of pressure ?

I’m a trauma surgeon.

I can totally picture myself in the trauma bay trying to confirm if this story was actually true:

“Sir, you were using the LEGO blocks to lift what?”

Yet we both know you’ve seen far worse. Some aren’t bad enough to make it your way…

And there’s never a shortage of those I slipped and fell, it didn’t feel right?!? You don’t need the radiologist to confirm it‘s a salt or pepper shaker, kid’s toy, shampoo bottle…. I better stop ?

I could write an (illustrated) book with all the stories and things people do before they get hurt.

there is no limit to the imagination

I don’t know why I started reading this thread but I couldn’t stop laughing ? although I think the Lego adapter is ok and I would use it. It’s only a centering piece, even a block of cardboard can center a jack and compress when the car is lifted. But it’s funny how y’all were concerned and even irritated at the idea hahaha

What I think when someone says that Legos are ok to lift the car ??
