Mechanical LSD Conversion

Anyone done a mechanical LSD conversion?

Saw this kit and wondering if it would fit our Supras....

Would it mess with the E-LSD and freak the computer out? Does the E-LSD need to be disabled?

Might want to consider ditching the EFI and going back to carbs as well Triple dcoe Webers maybe?

Drexler makes one but you need to machine the OEM diff housing and run some other different things. Not to mention issues with the computers.

Looks like it adds on to the eLSD and does not replace it. So it should be a pretty plug n play sort of solution.

My personal opinion - hopefully it's more helpful than confusing.
Wavetrac and all other helical/torsen LSDs (Eaton, Quaife, etc) are better than an open differential, but fall short of a locking mechanical LSD (such as a clutch pack based LSD). This is because they can unpredictably act like an open diff depending on various factors outside of your control; providing a level of inconsistency to how the car drives and behaves. I've always said a mechanically predictable car is a car that predictably wins, which is why I avoid these types of LSDs on all my cars. Also something to keep in mind; I have close friends who have broken various helical type LSDs including Wavetrac (they don't like a lot of torque).

Just my two cents! But I can tell you going from the factory torsen LSD (similar to the Wavetrac) in my BRZ to an OS Giken Super Loc 1.5way LSD was the best mod I ever did to the car. I love that it behaves the same way no matter what surface conditions I throw at it making it a very consistent and predicable car.

Seems Legit Garage sells a Ford 8.8 conversion. Fits flawlessly. Works great. Prepare for planetary gear howl in a narrow range around 60 MPH.

Also Powertune Australia has a Motec PNP kit in the works where they claim the following:

"...With the introduction of our MoTeC PNP ECU kits for these vehicles, a solution was required to allow tuners the ability to control the [LSD] lockup as they please.
This meant reverse engineering the operation of the differential, and creating control systems in the firmware that allow multiple tables to control the operation of the diff...."

If they can indeed do custom ELSD maps, one could essentially make the ELSD behave just like a mechanical LSD Looking forward to this.

Its quite unlikely that ELSD could work like a mechanical LSD. At least not in terms of initial lockup due to reliance on sensors.
