I hate to hijack the thread, but did the European software engineer market ever catch up to American salaries? I interviewed with a German company a few years back and the salary was laughable.
no and it never will because a lot of the money that could be our salary is cash that is automatically spent on our employers part of social security and some other structures that are expensive to maintain. It's a good thing but it becomes very annoying once you get into the spheres where you personally are unlikely to ever need any of those very expensive security nets :D compared to most other european countries it's really good though

Oh, yeah, I totally get that. But we're talking 300k vs 70k. I find it hard to believe the programs and infrastructure are worth 75% (adjusting for conversion).

Can the mods get the kids born in 1984-1985 a private members-only forum, please? Thanks.
Sounds like a good idea. It will be filled with pics of JNCO jeans, Jonathan Taylor Thomas haircuts, Kelly Kapowski, The Pink Ranger (Amy Jo Johnson), Surge, Jolt Cola, HI-c Ecto Cooler, Dunkaroos, N64 game screengrabs, and top it all off with the best 90s gif of all time....

It's possible.
We can smell our own. Especially in those hot rooms. Wooof.

I'd rather go to a 4 day music festival with not one stick of deodorant or bar of soap to be found.

I'm 25, i tell everyone who ask me if this is my car that it's my littlesister's car, she's only in the 4th grade but she lets me take it out. The reactions are priceless. "?"

I really don't think the early to mid 20's crowd can afford a car in this price range on average. Most young people don't even have a savings these days!! Many people in that age range are still building their credit history and working with low-mediocre income, student debt = High interest rates, minimal down payment, high monthly payment, high insurance rates, no money for maintenance or repairs. Maybe in a few years when you start seeing some higher mileage 20/21 models on the used market we will see the average owner age drop a few years as the younger people buy them up at a much lower price. Outside of that its mostly the silver spoon kids that live rent free with their 820+ FICO co-signers. There are few exceptions to this rule.
I got mine when I still was 24 and I wish my mommy would pay my rent :D I am lucky to not have any student debts though (it's free in Germany) and I guess I made the right choice to study CS which pays real good
26 here, and definitely an exception. I also work in software, so I'm a few years ahead of the curve financially.

I'm actually not sure Mk5s will depreciate to the point where 20-somethings will be regularly buying them, and its unlikely the average 20-something's financial situation that was described above is going to change anytime soon.

As a low-ish volume sports car if this link is anything to go by, I don't expect to see massive depreciation, kind of the like the M2 has been (haven't found sales numbers on the M2 though).

All these factors combined, early-mid 30s will probably remain the popular demographic, even once there are more Supras on the used car market.
