Oil and coolant level concerns

I'm fresh to the forum with just 2k miles on a 2025, but BMW does have more polymer type components on engines than enthusiasts would like to see, and those can be a source of leakage as well...., an example being https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1882255 We are now getting into the 5+ years of usage era!

False. Modern cars don't even have coolant. That's for dino cars.

So just got the car back from my mechanic, he checked to see if anything was leaking etc, he said it was all bone dry. He did say it could be the turbo.

Any suggestions on how to check this? Would the turbo cause coolant AND oil consumption issues? And would it cause the white smoke I was getting. ?

Like now everything has been topped off I'm not getting any white smoke, seems to be a gradual thing.

could start doing compression and leakdown tests or smoke the system. could still be turbo/head gasket

While compression testing you can also take a look inside the cylinders (with an endoscope), if there is any oil / water inside.

Using one of those coolant testers can also determine if the headgasket is blown, or in worst case a crack inside the block.



And yes a blown gasket at the turbo can also cause coolant or oil leaking inside the turbo.

that liquid test only works on severe cases.

IF my turbo is the cause of the coolant and oil consumption issue I have, how do I diagnose this? Would it be obvious if I were to take it off? What should I be looking for?

I guess you could remove the downpipe and check the exhaust housing if there is some wetness or / and an oil film.
