Opinion on buying a wrapped supra from a reputable dealer ?

Considering buying a 2000ish mile 23 auto supra that is wrapped but red underneath. Car has a clean history with one owner and is unmodified other than the wrap. The wrap was done by a specialist with good reviews.

Everything seems great except the wrap isn’t my favourite and I would be taking it off. My main concern is the condition of the car and paint underneath the wrap. Any thoughts appreciated

If the wrap was done properly and isn't sun bleached/destroyed, any reputable shop should be able to take it off without issue.

Although it's probably worth having them claybar and paint correct the car after, even if you don't plan on doing PPF or anything yourself.

I'd try to have some guarantee about the paint under the wrap, even if it was all done correctly maybe there's a problem being covered up. And since no one will guarantee anything... I'd tend to stay away from it. Or, negotiate for the deal of the century if possible. See how long the car has been for sale and use it against them if it's been a while. Or gamble and wait and see if they change their mind if it doesn't get sold. You might have a chance the company that wrapped it can remember something good or bad.

I am waiting to hear back from the place who wrapped it. Maybe they can provide some more info on the car when it came in and how the wrap was done. The car was also wrapped from new apparently, so that’s good I guess?

Do you want to keep the wrap? If not I would have them remove the wrap so you can inspect before purchase. If they won't do that, probably a good sign to just walk on it

The wrap does have some scratching/marring on some parts of it. Car was stored in a garage and not in the sun.

Do you want to keep the wrap? If not I would have them remove the wrap so you can inspect before purchase. If they won't do that, probably a good sign to just walk on it

They said they wouldn’t take the wrap off without a deal being made, so I don’t think I could see the red underneath without putting some money down. Should I be concerned that they won’t take the wrap off without me buying it?

It's very low mileage so there's a good chance there's nothing wrong with the paint, but unless the deal is really solid you're probably better off looking at other Supra's to be safe.

Brother, it is not odd at all that he wrapped the car red just not his color maybe and then the wrap protects the paint for resale value. The factory paint is fine underneath. I’m sure there was nothing wrong with it prior to him wrapping it (hence being the reason he wrapped it) you will have no issue taking off the wrap. It has not been on there long enough and factory paint does not peel off of a car like a repaint would with wrap on top of it.

Owners often take their cars back to stock and sell most of the mods separately because they won’t get anything close to what the mods are worth leaving them on the car. That said, odds are the paint is fine underneath with such low mileage.

There is always a risk of paint peeling off with the vinyl & clearbra when removed. I've seen this happen on factory paint.. or dealer repaired transportation damaged paint sold as new.

I would pass on vinyl wrapped cars even if I liked the color unless I have a roll of the same wrap I can use in case I get bumped or something..

But that's just me..

I was assured by the place who wrapped the car that there should be no issues taking off the wrap since they wrapped it from new and apparently they don’t use the glue that other wrap places use? Not exactly sure if that’s good or bad

Pretty good deal imo. Where I’m located it’s been hard to find a nice clean example of a 23+ red in automatic. Been looking for months and only seen one other car that matched my criteria and it sold very quickly.
