Its a hard job after the effect. I can attach some pictures and happily address any questions.
Even if you just listed the ones you did and what you used I think that's helpful if you don't mind!

Just read this thread and it references my experience with cars - I am 48 years old and owned 55 cars. The cars have gotten better over the years as I've been able to afford higher specs. I am a fastidious owner. I've had a love/hate relationship on a daily basis with every one of them. What irks me the most is interior rattles, squeaks, vibrations etc Every car is ripped apart sound deadened and fixed with felt tape etc. i wanted to buy a base 4cyl Porsche caymen but the Supra just stood out as better value with its 6cyl engine and features. I have massive buyers remorse. This car is very quiet and refined in terms of NVH but the rear squeaks and rattles are really bad, the doors rattle and the carbon fibre centre console has a squeak in it when you press on it or go over an uneven surface its worse when the car is warm. The centre console with the 8 custom buttons makes a squeak when u press on it and when driving over some bad bumps. I blame Toyota for this. My BMW's where never this bad and these parts are Toyota Parts.

I owned an Audi A3 not one single rattle for 4 years (wifes car) I also own a Golf R it had two rattles and I fixed both of them, this car doesn't make a single noise over any surface.

Ive never owned a porsche I am thinking maybe the Porsche,Audi, VW family is where I should put my money as they know how to build interiors.

So far I have eliminated the rear rattles and squeaks in the Supra completely this is a big relief. I stripped everything I used rubber adhesive seals around the woofers so the sound projects out. I uses felt tape over the metal clips on carpeted speaker cover and panel. I used sound deadening on many surfaces including thick sound deadener under that carpeted plastic moulding.

Every Plastic panel has some sound deadener added to the underside and felt tape where it rests against another panel. The metal brackets beneath the plastic and carpeted panels in the trunk are flimsy so I stuck sound deadener on those brackets. I shoved sponge and speaker wadding into gaps in the rear fender to fill the cavities.

I filled the aluminium fake chassis brace with sponge to deaden it as it transmits noise like a speaker.

I placed sound deadener on the inside of my doors panel and some thicker sponge where the door lock mechanism goes through the hole as this is a source of a known rattle.

So the car is far better now. Its just the creaks from the centre console carbon fibre and front facia that needs to be sorted which I have not tackled yet.

With these rear rattles and creaks fixed the car feels like it rides smoother which is the placebo effect and my OCD.

I had similar suspension vibration sound over rough surfaces and it was one of the underbody plastic lining that needed some rubber inserted in there. This was discovered by accident as I came across this issue it on a you tube clip. Not sure if that is what you have? sorry I cannot point to which clip. I actually shoved rubber everywhere I could so not exactly sure which panel was causing the problem. It did sound like a suspension vibration and mechanical issue its was that bad.

Even though the car is so much better now with 4000km's on the clock. I still have buyers remorse but when I study the options available on the market nothing really pops up as an option except the porsche Caymen - having read OP review its sounds like even that car doesnt tick the boxes. Maybe this means I need to just persevere and iron out all the gremlins on this car and it will be perfect.

I have to agree that the engine, handling, steering (apart form the awful steering wheel) are all pedigree and up there with the best. I have the AWE catback non resonated and it sounds like supercar.
amazing to hear Iā€™m not the only one going through this! Extremely interested in how you fixed the front rattle on the under panel! Iā€™d love to know what panels they were and what type of rubber solution you found to fix it!!

I had a vibration sounded like suspension/spring loose. I watched a you tube clip that mentioned they placed rubber underneath the plastic panels underneath the under carriage the clip didn't point to where it was it was just mentioned it. I watched so many supra clips I don't recall which one it was. I put the car on ramps and got under there with sticky butyl rubberised foam deadening its about only about 3mm thick purchased at my local electronics store that I used in areas inside the car for sound deadening and stuck on the inside of all the plastic panels bolted onto the underneath of the car in various areas. Very random and didn't believe that it was going to fix my issue. Once I did this the noise magically disappeared.

Perhaps it wasnt the rubber but simply loosening the plastic lining and re-seating it that fixed it. I don't know. It similar to the panels in the rear of the car sometime they go on and creak like crazy and then you pull them off and re-seat them and they seem to be free of any noises.

Its tiring trying to sort all these issues out. Just trial and error keep at it until all the noises are gone. I have taken my car apart in the rear about 3 times. 3rd time I am more familiar with how to take it apart.

If I get a chance I will try crawl under there and take some shots and post it.

Almost gave up on this car but I am starting to properly enjoy it now.

Amazing! That is borderline pornograohic as I would kill to do this on mine!

The underpanels are my final hope. Are there tons of them to sort? My sound seems like itā€™s coming from up top directly above the strut towers-is that how yours was? It was a very high pitch/mid range harsh metallic vibration rattle

Sorry mine was more a knocking sound, sometimes a vibration like a spring vibration sound I couldn't tell if was coming from top I just knew it was somewhere from the front left shock.

There is a thread on a what appears to be the noise you may have that ended up being a plastic cover in the engine bay that needed a little bit of attention. I didnt have to touch that panel. Sorrry its somewhere in this forum myabe under recalls, tsm, etc.

You may have the same issue as mine but in a different spot. There aren't many panels just crawl under there and take a look.

By the way I am no mechanic or expert at this. I have very basic tools and not the best at using them. I always say if I can do this stuff anyone can.

Came across this thread again. I was curious if you were still enjoying the Supra? I continue to entertain the other cars you used to own specifically the cayman and 911. I saw the mention of the rattly interior and now steering clunk.

Yes absolutely! Iā€˜ve learned and adapted to now always driving with the windows down to mask the noises, which of course is a horrible solution, but has saved me severe headaches from chasing down the noises. The steering clunk is very faint, and as long as it doesnā€™t get triggered during my drive, I tend to forget about it. Even with all of the issues I am having (metallic harsh high pitched vibration noises from all 4 corners of the car, steering wheel clunk, and horrific subwoofer box vibration even while listening to talk radio) there is still nothing I would trade the car in for currently. No desire to go back to Porsche or BMW.

No desire to go back to Porsche or BMW.

As a former owner of both marques, (6 BMW's, 2 911's, 996 C4S and 997 C2S cab PDK), I find myself in almost total agreement with your comparisons with the 911.
I traded my 997 for the Supra and I have no regrets.

Your analysis of the 911 is correct in all aspects. I differ from you in that I actually
liked the sense of sure footedness ( is this a word?) of the P-cars and the confidence that they gave me to attack corners, brake late and come out with a bang. I have yet after almost 2 months and 1.6k miles on my 2021 Prem to reach the same level of confidence with the Supra.

I think that owning and driving a 911 for the last 10 years has spoiled me in that I keep looking for and expecting Porsche behavior from the Supra. It is a bad approach and I need to learn the Supra's moves and reactions to my inputs and tailor those inputs to the car. I expect that this will come but I need to change my attitude first.

I too feel that at this price point (55-65K), there is nothing currently available that can compare, Porsches included...A new 911 optioned like my Supra would be north of 160k and as a result, lots of former Porsche owners like me, have essentially been priced out of the marque.

Thanks for a well thought out and comprehensive comparison. And btw, I share your opinion on car journos that profess papal opinions after 3 or 4 hours in a car. Ridiculous!

I read your review on Sunday. I had my list down to the 718T and the Supra.

I watched (and listened) to every vid I could find. I read all the journalist reviews.

Your review and comparisons meant more to me than all of the rest. Journalists and reviewers too often say idiotic things like "if you can afford a 60k car than you should spend 20k more and...." I guess they are financial geniuses. šŸ„±šŸ˜

Anyway, I put money down yesterday for a 2022 3.0 AT Premium, Arctic Zero, Red Leather. It's 5/4/22 "truck arrive". Next step is rail depart (not available status). Dealer says it could be a week or two away. Sound right?

Thanks for a meaningful, realistic and informed review.
