I'm not being funny serious question. By the time you buy JB4 and then custom tune, aren't you at a price point of unlock and BM3 or MHD at that point...
Mine was an even swap for my OEM cat from the guy I bought my catless dp.

I didn’t want to mess with it honestly. Then come to find out you can customize it and turn it off and on. Hence going back to baseline at the click of a button. Maybe you can do that with BM3 or MHD as well? But… I do know a two guys that got unlocked, got some “tuning” and can’t get back to baseline now. They want to track after doing those power mods.

So being said in my unusual case. I can set it to Map 6 custom tune in town and she’s another car completely. Insanely fast. On track driving hundreds of miles full throttle, I can turn it off and no codes or limp mode.

:offtopic:

Which bears the question, do y’all know who my buddy could ask or see to get his 2020 back to baseline with an unlocked BM3 tune? He’s been to lots of places and they keep trying to work backwards and find the problem of overheating (limp mode on track). To me the problem is simple. Turn it all off because we can all drive on track w/out any tune. Is it that simple? Thanks!

If I understand how this works... big if. I should never have the problem of not being able to get to baseline. I'm having my 2022 dme unlocked then cloned to an unlocked 2019 dme. The 2022 dme will never get "tuned" so will always have my "baseline" on it. The 2019 dme will get BM3 loaded and tuned.
So if (again, big if) I've comprehended what I've read, anytime I want to go to baseline, true baseline. I just reinstall the 2022 dme. Where this will become an issue is when I move on from bolt-ons to adding a DAW and PI.

Cost wise -

ECU Tune: femto unlock is 1300-1500, the BM3 software is 600, the custom tuning (which is still a great idea vs OTS) is another 600 (1200 if on flex for the double tune and add 500 for BM3 etoh kit). All in all you’re looking 2600 (93oct) or 3700 (EFlex). - don’t forget a loss of car access for 10-15days.

jb4 tune: 700 for all the parts with BT, 500 for the tune (catch Jesse on one of his many sales). Add 500 for etoh sensor if Eblend. Overall 1200 -1700 bucks and no down time.

It’s deff cheaper going JB4 (and easier since there’s no DME shipping) - but you’ll always be a good 30hp+ less than BM3. You can also always sell your JB4 for atleast $400 if you change up. If DME stateside unlocking 21’+ then I would do that - pricing probably gets way closer to JB4 without the loss of my daily driver.

I didn’t think of that. Good point. You could pull the JB4 out a pinch easier, I’d think and have a more marketable car for the masses. If/when you ever went to sell…

Ultimately it’s what the end user wants to do and I’m sure there’s a lot more flexibility (and complexity) with unlocking the car. More knowledge, more power to those who can do it :)

JB4 app, recently hasn’t received good reviews, that’s why I’m reluctant to pay
For the app. If it was free, yes, but it’s not
And after I’ve seen reviews, not buying it
Says who? Did you ask here? I've never had a single issue with the app. Not even almost...unless you count unlocking it and putting it in my name.

Share these reviews for us...or maybe ask here first where you have users first hand.

App is great! That's my review, haha.

No...it's 400 (Used with BT) + 300-600? (was less than it is now....was less than JB4 when I did it). I still haven't even got to the "unlock" price with Jb4 and tune. Unlock is only half of it. And if the dealer relocks your sh*t? $700 again or w.e it is. Jb4? No relocks, just quick easy cheat tunes.

I bought used and got a custom tune. That's still less than just the unlock. Also, some of us want to wait for a conventional tune, so no amount of money on the JB4 will matter. I'm just gonna keep holding out hope I can just drive to the shop and get tuned. Until then, I'll spend 50k on JB4, lol. That's just me, though.

JB4 is still going to be less for now, but if you buy a JB4 second-hand at their going rate on this forum ($400-450 w/bluetooth) - its still the best performance value.

I paid $425 for my JB4, custom tuning it myself for free, and put a $400 downpipe in it. I should be pushing ~450whp with under $1k in performance mods.

Femto unlock and BM3 will be easily near $2500 alone.

Kind of. With a 22', i took the JB4 route and have loved it. All said i think it cost me 700ish for the unit w/BT and phone app. And another 400 for some dyno sessions and a map6 tune... not Jesse but wish I would have. Low end throttle response isn't the best.
Any way, call it 1,100. I'm about to drop over 3,500 for a unlock/clone, BM3, custom flex tune, and the dyno sessions. Looking back, i wish i would have just went unlock from the beginning. Took awhile to find a cloneable dme. Oh, and that 3,500 doesn't include the 2019 dme... don't even want to tell you how much i spent on that.

I'll report back once BM3 is installed and I've ran it for awhile.
Why are you cloning the ECU when BM3 custom rom is available without a clone?

? I hear ya. If you’re not tracking, throwing on a catless downpipe (expecting a few errors here and there), why push it. Keep it simple as hell.

Last thing the average owner wants is ”down time” for ? to be fixed. I knew what I was getting into. You might even benefit from just putting it on Map 2 and enjoy those gains. With a custom map you do need to do some “pulls” and configure the app in Map 6 with the data, emailing back and forth. Sure it’s not hard for most. Especially on this forum. But it’s takes time. However, you can always go back to Map 0 (with the JB4 turned off) in between and no down time.

Different strokes for different folks. I‘m sure someone somewhere had a problem with the app. It’s the nature of these things. I’ve never had a problem with the integration (Bluetooth connection). But that doesn’t mean you won’t. This car is a hell of a lotta fun out of the box ?

You ever consider an aftermarket downpipe? They make them catted and no CEL (check engine light). Added HP gain and don’t’ need a JB4, unlock, or any hassle. Just a thought :)

Florida trackdays, yes I believe in K.I.S.S.
(Keep it simple stupid) and a simple downpipe or JB4 on 1-2 map would make me happy. I don’t wanna be that kid doing 134 mph? getting caught, and going to jail??
And I’m over 16 years old ?

Really just piece of mind. No matter what happens to the 2019 dme, I'll always have my original in stock configuration. right now I only have 6k miles on the car and if I run into something where I need to take it in for warranty work. removing the bolt-ons and swapping the dme is easy. Another plus is once the 2019 is cloned, even if it gets locked by mistake, I won't have to ship it back to Femto. it can be unlocked stateside

No reason to clone unless you want ecutek and if you shelled out the money for a clone might as well go that route. Your warranty is void no matter what even if you put the original DME back and swap parts they can tell. There will be a millage discrepancy in the ECU so kiss powertrain warranty out the window if you want to tune.

confused on one part. Why would have use ecutek with a clone? since it's unlockable, why couldn't I use any tuning platform? BM3, MHD, etc...
