Hi all,

I am considering making the switch to a Supra. I run in the advanced groups (15ish events per year and I'd like to do more) and the car is driven hard lol.
On my car, I've done suspension, brake upgrade, brake cooling ducts, brake pads, big trans cooler, front splitter just to name a few.

Curious if the auto Supra have trans overheat issues like many autos? Is there enough oem cooling on the brakes? I would be upgrading the pads regardless.

Pretty new to Supras so any info would be awesome. This forum also has great info. Thanks!

I'm in the South East and it gets hot. I've had no issues doing ~1-2hr in the heat with my car and haven't heard of any overheating issues for either engine or trans with stock power. If you tune you'll need other cooling options.

I added some brake ducts for insurance. ~4 screws per side and about 5min once you take the wheel off. Now I don't even think about it. There are people that run in the SE without ducts and do fine. I'm intermediate so I probably over brake a lot still and before my pedal could get slightly soft for my liking near the end of a long session. Now I don't even think about it.

@Traxion

Per my buddy, the only things that I'm aware of that he has done so far and hasn't really run into many/any issues is:

Eibach front sway bar (I still believe at mid setting?)
I think when one of his front sway links broke he got some heavier duty ones
Upgraded brake lines to help with overheat issues and high temp brake fluid
Studs and nuts (who even likes using lug bolts?)

I believe he did swap over some other suspension stuff but I'll let him fill in the blanks. These were just the only things that were done that caused issues or were upgrades to really help the car out.

No transmission overheating issues that I’ve heard of.

If you get project mu 999s or CSG pads you may not need brake ducts. I have brake ducts but I was trying to make the only Hawks pads available (DTC60) work when driven harder.

Do whatever you’re doing now if the car you’re coming from is about the same weight, HP & torque. Slowly add mods so you can troubleshoot easier. The car does well out of the box with a set of tires and good fluids. Sway bars and steel braided brake lines are always a plus.
