What Strom is doing with the B48 is fun to watch. I see the B48 becoming much more common swap similar to K swaps especially if they can get the ZF8 integration 100%.

Strom also has the charge pipe intercooler which hopefully makes its way over to the B58.

For sure, makes me want to find a lightly damaged salvage 2.0 and build a project car.
Surprised no one's done it yet, but maybe the chassis just can't get light enough to make it worth it.

I haven't been keeping up with Strom that much since he mostly does B48 content, but like you, I enjoy watching this guy the most.

This is a good idea. I am buying one. One-way clutches in overrun pulleys are mostly maintenance-free, but they do have a service life. That being said, I will take a gladly accept 5 minute overrun pulley replacement at 60k, if it will extend the life of the crank pulley.

Slight clarification, pulley inertial effects should be squared. An alternator that spins at 3x engine RPM, has an effective inertia of 9x.

Thing is, when an OAP fails, do they usually seize up or freewheel? Dead battery is the obvious one, but if they lock up, makes me wonder if we would be able to tell. Just in case we need to pull an Awad

In theory both can happen, but seizing up is more common. In which case it just behaves like the normal Factory pulley.

One Way clutches in power transmission are made differently and those tend to fail by Freewheel. Both use a wedge mechanism, but the pieces are shaped differently

Same, just posted his video in another thread of him using Claude to decode/find canbus signals.

I bought one as well. Any special tools needed to install these?

Same, got one on the way. Haven't looked to see how tight it's going to be getting this swapped out. Someone Sputnik this install and report back please.

Having done my AC compressor pulley...Remove the chargepipe and cooling stack shroud/plate. Then you'll have room. Removing the fans yields more than enough space, as well.

There should be plenty of room and the process is easier if you already have a 2 piece charge pipe.

I'm trying to follow their instructions -
  • Detension belt
  • Remove plastic cap in center of alternator pulley
  • Hit nut inside current pulley with impact gun to spin it off
  • Remove old pulley
  • Thread on new pulley (we do not recommend loctite)
  • Hold center of alternator shaft with a torque wrench in the off (counterclockwise) direction - the alternator shaft is a 10mm 6 point hex (do not use 12 point). Hold Strom Overrun pulley hex with 27mm open wrench and tighten to 38lb/ft - 50Nm
  • If you do not have a torque wrench that can go in the off direction then hold it with a normal wrench and make it nice and tight, it is not a critical torque spec and the pulley will self tighten in use as the alternator spins and loads.
  • Reinstall belt
  • If you don't understand these instructions then do not install this yourself and have a mechanic do it.

Anyone know how to remove this? I dont see a cap or nut
