It's not like when Toyota unveiled the all-new Supra in 1986 with the 7MGE, and a year later in 87, released the 7MGTE

Hell, even the MA61 power output increased year-on-year... only the A80 didn't - and it was born from a 90s golden-era where Japanese manufacturers could release everything simultaneously

I understand why youre frustrated but let's not pretend a car, a sports car for that matter, is ever a good financial investment
I bought my 911 as a fun track day, AX, wine tour, project car 12 years ago. Lets just say it's worth quite a bit more than what I bought it for ATM. So it can be a good investment, although rarely.

Certainly the same could be said for anyone that purchased a MKIV back when they were readily found for $30K or so on the used market. In all of those cases however, you will likely need to wait at least 10-20 years before the curve bends in the opposite direction - and you'll only know if you own one of those "edge cases" in hindsight... it could be one of the vast majority that never appreciates at all.

Plus a classic 911 is arguably an edge case among edge cases... great design isn't just timeless - it's highly collectable. ;)

Figured I'd throw my hat in the ring on this since I bought a 2020. While I was a bit surprised that it happened so quickly, it's not something I could have accurately predicted anyways. I'm not even sure if I'll keep the Supra long-term anyways or swap to something else.

Resale value isn't too much of a concern, because relative to the depreciation total, I think the difference isn't going to be massive. As others have said, you can't really be mad about depreciation on a sports car or any car for that matter, especially in the short term. And if resale value is a concern, then the first model year is probably one to avoid anyways.

While there are some good upgrades in the 2021, if I didn't already have a 2020, I probably would just wait until the last model year to get one at this point. I may even trade up to one if i do want to keep a MkV long-term and upgrade, but time will tell.

If you do keep the 2020, you can still modify the car to make good power gains and work with the suspension to stiffen things up. At the end of the day, we still chose to buy a year one car. Like I said, the power boost after the first year was a bit quick and surprised me, but I fully expected the car to gain some power over the 4-5 years that Toyota is planning to sell them.

People are too hung up on the power figures between the 20/21. All in all both will perform similarly even more so once modded.

Correct, but it’s also different calculus for the owner who isn’t going to mod. For those of us staying stock it’s a different story.

Yup! Exactly. You can't compare modded vs stock, or even modded vs modded because they're not the same cars. I'm not touching my drivetrain, no intake, no downpipe, no tune. I'm just doing cosmetic stuff like a catback. I was thinking about springs but reading how many people have issues, I might not do those until there's a proper solution. Get some spacers for the wheels until I want a new set, some tint, and presto. 388 wheel is plenty for me.

I had a tuned STI and although it was great, and nothing ever happened, every time I felt something, heard something, I always got nervous it was gonna blow. And it being a Subaru it was justified :rofl:
But it took the fun away for me. I was too worried to enjoy it. If I leave the Supra stock, I can fully enjoy it knowing if something happens, it's covered.

I said closely matched, even more so when modded. I’m not suggesting to mod or everyone should do it. I highly doubt it’s going to be very noticeable between the two stock for stock. Hp isn’t everything, the person behind the wheel also matters.

The A90 is actually better for modification higher compression and head spools better. (or so Ive heard)
