I've been told the same. Repaint isn't as strong as factory. And there's always a risk of the paint lifting depending on how well the shop prepped the surface.
There is absolutely no reason shop paint should have any less adhesion than the factory paint if done by a competent painter.

The only issue is blending - unless the whole panel is repainted, eventually, the paint blend will always deteriorate.

It's a trade off - painting a whole bar and getting it to match the metallic/colour of the rest of the body will be dicey - so just repairing a section will be a better visual result, but after 10-20 years, it will eventually break down

(I went through all of this when my A80 had some work done recently - my painter even bought stands so it could be painted "as it sits" on the car - and not facing up - as the application of the metallic would look different when bolted to the body)

After considering that, I decided to go full plastic welding and repaint whole bar. You really have to find a good place(make sure they’ve got the right equipment and use good paint eg. Proper booths, spectrophotometer )and have the faith.
I was rewarded for it but my cars a flat colour, albeit yellow.

A competent painter has all this covered it's not some special painting rocket science. The orientation of the panels for painting at the factory and for repair needs to be the same for the metallics in the paint to match orientation, it's all grist to the mill for a good painter. He can always lay the paint on in the correct direction anyway with the gun. A lot of new cars have a slight miss match in colour between plastic bumper covers and metal bodywork as well, it's very common. When I've had covers repainted I've told the painter I expect him to be able to match it better than that and they always have. Part of the process is paint matching in the natural light and not in the shop under shop lighting but it's all basic stuff to a good painter. If your painter can't reproduce the original colour with a better eye than you have then you need a new painter.

love the wing ?
What’s the specs on your supra?
Thanks man. First thing I did when I got it home.

I did need it done prior to PPF, but even if I didn't it was going on :D Hehe.

It's GTS + Alcantara in auto.

I kind of regret not getting the tan interior. Haven't decided if I'm happy I didn't go manual yet, because this auto feels epic.

You won't in a year or two. Tan doesn't age well.

Did you install it by yourself and how much would it cost to PPF the whole car?

I've been doing and will do all the mods myself (usually). But I won't do PPF as a DIY. It's booked in with Exclusive Wraps for Monday.

Wrap business can be cheap or expensive, pending;
- quality of the wrap
- quality of the installer

I want awesome in both, so I'll probably be paying around 8k-9k-ish is my guess for gloss, clear PPF. I didn't get a price from them yet.

I know people near me who have paid around 5k. One of my close mates did that. He's relatively happy with his. But he said he is using Exclusive next time he gets PPF done.

So pending your expectations - make your budget 5-10k. And match price to expectations in the bracket.

Some people say its the same price of a respray. True. But I rather prevent than fix...

I paid around $5k for a front end wrap on the Supra and lets say I'm lukewarm on the results. It's not god awful but it's also not worth the money paid. Back before PPF was common, I had the front of my car PPF'd for about $750 and I honestly think both the film and install were much better back then.
