A quarter of a century after Mazda redefined the modern-day roadster with the original Miata, the Japanese firm unveiled the all-new, and dramatically restyled, fourth-gen MX-5 Miata Roadster ahead of a global rollout in 2015.
BMW Z4 from the Chris Bangle era.

Mazda didn't say if and when it will introduce a retractable hardtop version of the car.

From the quick glimpse we get of the interior, Mazda kept a familiar feel with plenty tech borrowed from other models like the floating, tablet-style infotainment screen positioned on top of the center console and controlled via a rotary knob.

During the presentation, Mazda said it improved the actual and perceived quality of the cabin compared to previous MX-5s, with more softer-in-touch plastics and snazzier trims.

So, what are your first thoughts about the new generation of the Miata?

Mazda's and its gram strategy for weight reduction is really impressive. Perfect 50:50 balance too, what a platform... I saw the other day rumor that they are building the Fiat 124 off of this chassis.

2016-Mazda-MX-5-Miata-production-0.jpg

Mazda has started building North America-bound 2016 MX-5 Miata at its plant in Japan and has announced pricing for the all-new roadsterā€™s entire lineup.

The base 2016 Mazda MX-5 Sport has a starting MSRP of $24,915, excluding an $820 destination charge. Standard equipment includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a six-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission, cruise control, LED headlights and taillights, Bluetooth phone pairing and audio streaming, leather-wrapped shift knob, power door locks, single USB input and cruise control.

The 2016 MX-5 Sport can also be equipped with an automatic transmission that is available for $1,075. Advanced Keyless entry costs and additional $130 (standard with automatic transmission).

As you already know, the 2016 MX-5 will arrive in the US with a Launch Edition that will include the first 1,000 vehicles sold in the country. Priced from $30,495 (excluding $820 destination), the MX-5 Launch Edition comes equipped with features reserved for the MX-5 Grand Touring trim, in addition to Advanced Keyless entry, which is optional in other trim levels.

All 1,000 Launch Editions are painted Soul Red with a Sport Tan leather interior ā€“ a combination exclusive to the Launch Edition for 2016. The only option for Launch Edition models will be the choice of a six-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission or the six-speed automatic, the latter of which carries an MSRP of $31,570 (plus $820 destination).

As Mazda announced at the New York Auto Show, US buyers will also get the performance-focused MX-5 Club. Priced from $28,600 (plus $820 destination), the model gets 17-inch gunmetal alloy wheels, front air dam and trunk-mounted rear lip spoiler, piano black seat back bars and exterior mirror caps, Mazda Connect with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and commander control knob, as well as an AM/FM/HD/SiriusXM satellite radio with a nine-speaker BOSE audio system with headrest speakers.

Manual transmission models also get a limited-slip rear differential, Bilstein shocks and shock-tower brace as standard.

Finally, the range-topping MX-5 Grand Touring starts from $30,065 (excluding $820 destination). The model offers premium features and technology including leather-trimmed heated seats, automatic climate control, Homelink garage door opener, rain-sensing wipers and adaptive headlights, as well as Mazdaā€™s i-Activsense suite of safety features including blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning, among other features.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Club Video, First Look

Mazda is gearing up for the largest Miata launch in its history.

Having debuted the next-generation MX-5 Miata last year, the Japanese automaker has followed up with several variants with the latest bowing at the 2015 New York Auto Show. Continuing in the tradition of past MX-5 Miatas, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Club gets some extra add-ons to make the driving experience more spirited.

Upgrades on the MX-5 Miata Club include Bilstein shocks, a shock tower brace and a limited-slip rear differential ā€“ but thatā€™s only available to manual transmission buyers. Every Club model does come with a front air dam and rear lip spoilers as well as 17-inch gunmetal wheels. There are plenty of options to add-on as well including 17-inch BBS wheels and Brembo brakes.

Redesigned 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Priced At $24,915

2016-Mazda-MX-5-0.jpg

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, the fourth iteration of the company's iconic roadster, will start at $24,915 when it hits American dealerships later this year.

The outgoing 2015 base Sport model starts at $23,970, before destination charge. That's about a $1,000 price increase, although we've yet to see detailed equipment changes comparing new and old cars. North American Miatas get a 2.0-liter, 155-horsepower four, rather than the 1.5-liter engine that's standard elsewhere in the world.

Mazda also said today in a news release all Miatas would come with a six-speed manual, Bluetooth and power door locks. Sport remains the base, joining Club and Grand Touring trims.

Mazda has already confirmed it would show the 2016 MX-5 Club Edition at the show, and likely detail pricing and equipment levels for the new car.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Priced from $25,735

The new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport will carry a base price tag of $25,735 including destination charges.

The pricing for the new car was announced on Live With Kelly And Michael as part of auto show week. No further details on pricing were divulged.

For that money, you will get a base MX-5, which comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Curb weight for the new car was announced at 2,332 lbs for the manual-equipped MX-5.

Standard equipment on the car includes a six-speed manual transmission, LED headlights, USB audio input, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, a leather-wrapped shift knob and power door locks.

Three trim levels will be offered with the new car: Sport, Club and Grand Touring. Sport acts as the base model while the Club will be outfitted with performance equipment to improve the carā€™s race track times. Finally, the MX-5 Grand Touring sits atop the range, packing a long list of amenities to make this the most comfortable version of the car.

For comparison, the 2015 Scion FR-S carries a base price tag of $25,670.

Mazda will show off the most hardcore version of the 2016 MX-5, the Club Edition, at this weekā€™s New York Auto Show. Watch for more details here as AutoGuide covers the show live.

Not impressed by how Mazda USA bundle Miata trim. Sport is the trim enthusiasts should get. All the money goes to mods.

Its still a lot of money for a tiny car. Iā€™ll stick with the GR86 Iā€™m waiting on.
