Was told it couldn’t be repaired by the dealer. Not sure to have it plugged or replace it. Dealer won’t repair it just replace due to the location of the screw. Leaning towards a new tire.

i would bring it to a local tire shop and just have them plug it.. i had screws/nails around the same spot a few times and they always plugged it with no issues.. unless its on the tire wall then they said its no good and would need a new tire.

I would try. Part of the plugging process is reaming out the hole with a file tool. If the tool goes in through the tread and doesn't hit the sidewall, it should be OK. If the screw went into the sidewall from inside then I would be less inclined to try a fix.

I have fixed dozens of tires with plug kits -- the ones with rubberized rope plugs -- and never had one fail. I got to the point where I can fix it on the car with minimal air loss. So I think it's worth a try.

do you know the screw is deep? I had one where I pulled it out and it was a very short screw and it didn't do any damage.
I noticed the low tire in my garage and found the screw. Tire loosing air. When the screw was removed it was still leaking. Had it plugged yesterday but weary it will hold.

Exactly what was done yesterday. Not in the sidewall so you’re right. I’ll give it some time and see if it holds.

I've had this type of hole plugged on the shoulder of a MPSS tire on my E92 M3 back in the day. Had no issues, even took it to the track and ran it up to 130mph+ several times and I'm still alive. ;) I just did the same kind of repair on my mother's X5, same location, and it's been holding up just fine.

I used the plug for years, even at 135MPH and zero problem. Back then, they would still repair the tire. Now if you plug it, they won't work on it, which sucks. You can use the canned repair to hold the tire and they will fix that but I remember at one time, they wouldn't repair flats that had been fixed with the canned flat repair. Odd.

I use it on my FJ, no issues.
