The real question is can Toyota keep up with these numbers? It appears the next Z will have a manual. If and when it comes to market I can see it taking a huge piece of the pie from the Supra.

Manual is great and all but for like 100 vehicles sold do they even hit 5 sales (on average)? Everyone loves talking about manuals on the internet but then no one buys them :dunno:

Also, the Z is ugly.

Let's cut it down to just sports and sporty cars. The manual rate for the M2 and 86 is like 50%. I believe with the C7 depending on yr was anywhere from 40-30%.

Lots of people think the Supra is fugly. To each their own. How about we wait for the official unveiling?

I mean, sure the more you narrow the range the higher the rate will be (NSX is a good example) but the money is made in the volume not niches. But sure, do you have any additional sources of info for figures that high?

c7 - at 200k+ cars 26% were manual. https://www.corvetteblogger.com/201...at-production-statistics-for-the-c7-corvette/ (and that rate is too high to later years apparently, hence why it's no longer offered apparently)

86 - 33% for manual. granted that's higher than I thought. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/15/toyota-manual-transmission-sales-figures/

m2 - too many articles with not enough figures to post so I don't have a good number to post.

The best example is found was Miata - 52% where I figured they should only be sold as a manual, period. Apparently down from claimed 95% rate in from the original - https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/15/mazda-mx5-miata-manual-take-rate/

Sure, we can wait but if it's a re skinned 370 there's not much hope. I've worked at a Nissan dealer back in the day and that's been my opinion for about 15 years now. Maybe they'll pleasantly surprise me though.

Thanks for the updated numbers. I guess I was going by old figures. Here is the M2 from 2017 via bimmerpost.

The latest teaser look good to me so far.

I am in Toronto. I have seen around 3 Supras on the road to date. One is around my area, someone owns one. It was wrapped in a car cover in the winter parked on his driveway and I was certain by the looks and I could see a but of the rims that it was a MKV Supra. Sure enough, after going for more walks in the area and seeing it, it was. It was a black one. Very nice.

My other encounter was when I was going to Vaughan and I saw a black supra going the opposite direction in the other lane. It was also black, and man it looked so good. Seriously looked like a Batmobile haha. Those headlights look sinister in the night!

Love these cars.

The sales really stalled out in Jan, Feb, and Mar. This was probably because of the lack of rebates and the dealerships wanting msrp and above, and not allowing test drives.

Sales increased when Toyota had the $1k hidden dealer incentive, that was followed by the $2k dealer incentive. When Toyota applied the 0% financing or the $3500 rebate, the cars finally started moving. A lot of my local dealerships were able to take $7k off the car, because of these dealer incentives and rebates.

It definitely was good for sales. Probably not very good for resale value though.
Personally I refuse to buy a car without trying it out.

It's crazy how some Toyota dealers will not allow Supra test drives. Not allowing test drives does not help sell cars. Test driving Porsche, BMW, Corvettes, BMW, etc is a non-issue for the most part. Hell, Porsche, Mazda, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, Ford, even the FRS had driving events at race tracks to sell cars.

Resale and residuals are a good question for this car?

Toyota burned early buyers. Toyota killed the 2020 values by making such huge changes to the 2021. Additional cash rebates and 0% is additional salt in the wounds and will hurt 2020 resale even more. Toyota announcing significant changes every model year probably has some potential buyers on the fence waiting too.

Certain niche cars are very profitable. The 911 is a niche vehicle. I believe the 911 is one of the most profitable cars made.

This, and probably the good deals on the remaining 2020s are playing a role. There are only a handful of new ones left on autotrader.
Very true. I forgot about the remaining 2020s. Many dealerships were giving heavy discounts just to move them off their lots. I think for around $48k-$53k the Supra 6cy will sell more. The sales number seem to reflect where Toyota was giving rebates and 0% financing as well as heavy discounts.

Yup, we had people here saying they got one for as low as $45k. I doubt Toyota sold many 2.0s at all. Why would anyone pay $43-$47k for a 2021 2.0 when you could pick up last years model with a better engine and more options?
