2023 Nocturnal 3.0 Premium MT, 4Runner TRD Pro
New member/poster here. After creeping through this forum for well over a year, I finally decided to create an account. Thanks to all the members and their contributions... there is a ton of useful information here that has helped me along in my Supra journey...

I'm looking for some insight on my situation... Called a dealership that showed a white 2023 Premium MT in their inventory back in January of this year. (Of course) it was already under deposit, but they offered to take down my name and number should one pop up. To my surprise, I received a call from the dealer the following week who found a Nocturnal with the same specs unclaimed. Immediately signed a contract- with that vehicles VIN- and put down a deposit. I am confident the vehicle is real as it exists on the dealers site, ran the VIN through Toyota and even added it to my Toyota Owner's profile, comes up on Toyota's dealer inventory, and it appears on Toyota Tracker.

The car shows a build date of December... but has been presumably sitting at port awaiting shipment ever since. The vessel departure date was originally scheduled for March, then April, now May 18th. There are no holds on the vehicle per the dealer track. I'm beginning to get somewhat concerned as multiple other cars with later VINs and build dates have been shipped- and even received- since my allocation.

To add insult to injury, the white one I originally called for had its deal fall through and was offered to me. Idiotically, I declined as I already had purchased a ton of parts for my build on the nocturnal one. Missed the boat on that, but had since convinced myself that black was the way to go!

I understand things are wonky with shipping now across the industry and that patience- while growing thin- is a virtue with things like this. Basically, is this a common occurrence to be expected, or should I have something to worry about... Starting to feel like something will go wrong with this purchase and I will then be SOL for a 2023 MT... I've already tried to secure a few backups, but one was 10K over and the others accounted for... I have mine locked in at MSRP as it should be...

Note- the dealership has been extremely helpful with updates on this. I try to check in only once a month and not harass these poor guys. I know its out of their hands at this point. I do check Toyota Tracker like a crackhead daily, though...

My wife and I both drive 4Runner TRD Pros, a 2016 and 2019, and while I went out of state to get the 16, never was in a situation where I was faced with the possibility of not being able to purchase a car... First world complaints, yes, but I've saved and hoped since 2020 to get this in manual and would hate to miss the opportunity.

Any insight or therapeutic words are welcomed! I apologize for the long read. I'm obviously not paying much attention at the office right now.

Positive could just be regular delays.

Negative it was damaged in transit and waiting for parts to repair.

Hang in there bud! I had a build date of Nov 8th, with an original arrival date of Late Jan. I ended up getting mine March 16th.
During that time period, I had seen build dates from Jan and Feb get delivered around my local area weeks before mine. It was extremely disheartening.
As someone as already mentioned, its safe to say the vehicle might have been damaged (mine was), and may be awaiting parts / repair - which is the source of the delay. Apparently this is a common occurrence.
During this time, the toyota tracker went mia on me. I was in the dark for about a month and half, and had nearly lost all hope. When the vehicle did appear again on the tracker, things moved quick.
I would however, not tie your self to this particular car. I did that and missed out on chances to get similar spec'd cars a lot earlier.

By any chance did yours show a hold on it while being repaired? I actually asked about that with my dealer and he said there was no indication it was damaged/awaiting parts, etc. Said that there would be a note on the tracking page that it was being held from shipment for repair...

I actually spoke with another dealer yesterday that I called randomly who looked mine up, confirmed its real, and couldn't understand why it was delayed so much. Also didnt see a hold. He then spent 20 mins with me on the phone searching allocation and on ground inventory nationwide and couldn't locate a single similarly spec'd manual (in nocturnal). Some nitro and stratosphere are hidden out there though. I still think its insane that its so difficult to purchase a d@mn Toyota! You would think they would build more cars to beef up inventory, sell more cars, and make more profit. Unless there were some restrictions placed on them with the BMW partnership, seems counterintuitive to business.

Is your deposit refundable?

It went mia for good 2-3 weeks, with no indication that it was in a hold.
Then a hold appeared, but the dealer had no clue as to why or where at. At this time, the Toyota tracker started working again mysteriously, but said the car was back in Allocation phase, even though it had been in Freight phase since Dec.

Yes it is. I prefer a car over the deposit though… :)
Absolutely agree. lol..

I was just asking before I suggested that you continue to email dealers in an increasing distance from your home. That's what I did and I found a dealer that had received allocation on the exact spec that I wanted.
I had to make a spreadsheet with all the dealers I was interacting with so I could keep track of it all.

I think our cars may be waiting on the same Vessel. I'm in the same boat. I put a deposit down in Jan. and was originally told it would be here Mid-Late April. Vessel date has changed like yours and is now showing May. I wonder what our batch of cars are waiting on....

At this rate we might be getting a 2024.

Yup... Deposit in January, then monthly vessel departure delays... Sorry to say, I feel somewhat relieved that someone else is in the "same boat" so to speak... but it sucks.

Question for someone who may know: when the dealer's tracker indicates:

"Allocated: Build. Vehicle at departure port awaiting shipment. Estimated shipment date 5/15/2023"

Does this mean there's a chance its literally sitting on a boat... or has this car been sitting outside in a parking lot since January? Just curious as to how these stages are labeled and how the updates occur. I imagine that someone is scanning a barcode, like FedEx, updating the travel of these cars. Again, I have no clue and am curious as to what actually happens... Would make sense that ours are on the same boat, literally, as others have been allocated, built, and even delivered after us. Assuming that if our cars were allocated first, they should have gotten on the next boat before others.

Well I went to grab the VIN on the Toyota inventory site for my Supra and noticed it was gone. Checked the dealer site and that was gone too. I know the car never made it in as I just talked to them last week and got an update on when it was scheduled to get on the vessel. I'll call in the morning. But gives me vibes that it may have been damaged beyond repair or destroyed. It had already been delayed leaving Austria by over a month...

Are both you guys ordering the manual transmission? I wonder if they're making some updates to clutch since quite a few people have had issues after their HPDE track days...
