the pnp harness inserts into the automatic transmission connector. provides canbus connection without positapping the factory harness.

just keep in mind that you’re taping the can bus connection at the transmission (EGS) module and as such you taping into PT-CAN2 and may not see the same can traffic that you would see on PT-CAN.

All of the CAN bus information in this thread is based on monitoring PT-CAN not PT-CAN2.

Ha, nice video editing but hasn't anyone told this guy about the CDV delete and what a total heap of shite the manual is with the CDV in place?

It's not the CDV. It's the CDV and iMT. At least for me. Probably mostly the iMT to be honest. Do you drive with or without the iMT engaged?

And you have no issues? I swear, mine with iMT (even after deleting the CDV) is genuinely awful. Since having turned it off a few weeks ago I have enjoyed driving the car a lot more. We should catch up sometime. Curious to see what yours is like in comparison.

Sure but the problem is I don't let anyone else drive my cars or ride my bikes and don't expect any different from them. However if you want me to drive your car and evaluate it compared to mine I will. I'm never comfortable doing that but if you want me to I will to give you another perspective.

Oh well. I’m stuck in the first step.

found the CAN bus cables. Tapped them. Found the slot on the fuse panel. Added a circuit to it and added the ground.

I can’t get this to power the Mk3. No matter what combination of things I do, the only thing that powers the device is the OBD2.

Did you test for power? Do you have photos?

Ok. Here are my connections.

can wires tapped
IMG_3803.jpeg

Ground solid on same place as yours.

but here is the problem:

nothing in that upper right row gives me power
IMG_3804.jpeg

but if I tap anything on the bottom left row, any of the 5 slots will give me power (12.7v measured) and turn on the Mk3, however every single one of them will thr anerror and the car won’t start.

maybe I’m not using the right fuse??? Is a 20.

I’m convinced I’m doing something terribly stupid. I just don’t know what

You don't have a fuse in the first photo with it installed in the panel?

Also, you need two fuses in there to complete the circuit.

Did you test that empty fuse slot in the panel for power?

I had one fuse and took it out to show I was tapping the empty spot

THIS ???? is the incredibly stupid thing I was NOT doing

im sure is fine, but that would be the next step I for some Magical reason it does not work.

thanks!! ??

Ha!

so that made the trick of getting power to the Mk3.

then I connected to it and downloaded the presets for the Supra, which got imported,
Etc
then I turned on the car and I’m not getting any channels to show data.

I confirmed and I’m tapping on yellow/black and Yellow/white twisted pair.

Maybe there is something wrong with my settings

Items are probably set to CAN1 and you have CAN2 connected. You can switch them over in the settings.

This has proven to be impossible to do on my car. All kinds of weird issues.

Tapping into the fuse box itself is weird on my car. With a multi meter I can see that I get power on the empty fuse slot. As soon as I give that power the RaceCapture through a pigtail connected to the splitter cable into the 8 pin port, the car start throwing weird errors. The dash goes on and off every 3 seconds, and codes start to pop: drive train failure, driver assistant failure, and CEL.

Powering the RaceCapture via the OBDII through the other cable on the splitter has no issues. The box powers.

Why do I need to power through the Fusebox anyway if OBDII powers it?

I also tapped the twisted pair yellow-white/Yellow-black (there is only one twisted pair with those colors in the bundle), no matter what I do, I cant get any data.

The car is running, the settings between CAN1 and CAN2 are changed. Downloaded the Supra Preset, The Ports are open at 500K baud, the termination switch on or off. NO data.

Maybe the Box is broken. So I connected a TPMS CAN monitor into the 4 pin port and it works flawlessly, I can see the sensor data and program it into the software as dashboard.

Yesterday I manually programmed the Oil temperature from the OBDii and it sent data. Not perfect, number would go to 0 then to 210. But I least I got some data.

Unfortunately I wanted to extract very basic data (gear, RPM, throttle, braking, and some basic temps) but OBDII is very limited.

I have tried every single permutation of this for several weeks. Bought a second pigtail thinking that the fault was there. But no dice.

For now, at least, I have the TPMS working (My car’s TPMS receiver is not working so this is a good alternative) but im not getting a single bit of data from the CAN. For the lap Time data I will probably get the Garmin, once I sell my RaceBox, which is nice, but very basic on its features.

If anybody is doing this in FL I will go to you and buy you a beer…
