Does anyone know how to stop the trunk from locking automatically? Everytime I turn off my car, open the trunk (using door button) and then close my door, the trunk locks automatically, making me have to press the remote to open the trunk again. I noticed it mainly happens when I get off my car, and I close my door (not lock). To avoid it from happening, I have to either use the remote after getting off the car or leave the door open so that the trunk won't lock.... it's so annoying:confused1:

Ah welcome to Supra ownership, its not doing that intentionally. Whats happening is when you close your drivers door, the air pressure causes the trunk lid to lift slightly, then fall back down and end up partially latched.

main workarounds:
close your door slower

rotate the bump stops counter clockwise 1/4 of a turn each time it happens (if you max them out they can affect the lines between the trunk lid and body)

keep a window cracked so the pressure buildup doesn't happen

edit Nov 2024:
This is also generally solved without the bump stop "hack" (As I said, it can mess the body lines up and it will stress the latching mechanism) if you do the trunk "auto open mod" using upgraded struts and / or springs, ever since I did that mod, I adjusted the bump sops so the body line is correct

Yea like xproplayer said its the air pressure when closing the door. What worked for me is leaving the windows either halfway down or all the way down its up to you. I have also closed the door softly that works as well. This prevents the trunk from "auto locking". Annoying yes  but that's another solution

Oh wow, I did not know that. All this time I've been looking for settings like crazy lol. Thanks for this!

Yeah, I guess I should do that more often. I've noticed the door likes to "close itself" a bit, so I usually just let it close, instead of me pushing it.

I'll do it carefully now and test it

Someone recommended in another thread to turn those rubber knobs on the trunk (idk the actual name sorry) about a quarter turn counter-clockwise. I did that and it stopped happening. Just do as little as you can until it stops happening.

I had the same question! Glad I used "search" before reposting!

Also,, if the knobs push out the hatch too much where it's no longer flush with the body panels, you can remove the black trim and adjust the lock striker.

I twisted my knobs counterclockwise where it finally worked but then my hatch was no longer aligned with the side body panels. Loosening the 2 11mm bolts on the striker, then tapping it down about 1-2mm keeps the hatch from re-locking prematurely when that vacuum is caused by the doors closing shut.
