V-band downpipe to turbo loosening

The vband connection from my downpipe to turbo keeps loosening. Every day I go out and can tighten it. Not sure why but I ordered a new vband gonna put it on. When installing do you guys put anything on the vband threads like antiseize? Or just tighten it with nothing on?

Tighten with nothing on. Make sure it’s seated correctly and the downpipe is seated properly

Thank you. Just installed new vband. Away from actuator. How tight? I just tightened it hard with 1 hand and small socket

The best way to tighten V band clamp is to apply a smear or anti seize grease, a copper based one is good on the clamps internal faces and as you tighten the clamp up stop periodically and tap around the perimeter of the clamp with a soft faced hammer and continue tightening. The anti seize helps stop the clamp faces grabbing on the pipe to clamp interface and the periodic tapping does pretty much the same releasing the clamp faces if they have grabbed. So tighten, tap and repeat. It will smoke a little bit initially but then be fine. The antis seize is optional but the tapping is the key.

Just tighten it down good and don't worry about it.

Just tighten it down good and don't worry about it.
Well then use a hammer and a long brass drift.

Or as the old aircraft engineers saying gos "the Maintenance Manual, for guidance to the wise and the blind obedience of fools".

Cool story.

The car has approx 26,000 miles on it, over 70 track events with 2,560 laps, 57 hours of track time and more than double the OEM power.

The V-band has never come loose or fallen off my car this whole time and I just tighten down by feel and I have never used some odd hammer and goo method you are going on about.

Good for you, but not all V band clamps and pipe flanges are created equal. I've done literally hundreds if not a thousand in my time and some are just fine throwing on the clamp and tightening it up and some are a little more problematical and the grease and tap method sorts them out. The OP can choose what he wants to do I guess. It might come in handy for you to someday. You just never know:thumbsup:

Another cool story, however we literally talking about one particular v-band in one particular location on one particular car. We are not talking about your wives car or some other car, or hundreds of other random cars that "you worked on". Stay focused.
