I did. I bought my other two cars ('21 Tacoma TRD Off-Road & '21 Highlander Platinum) with cash, too. Not dick waving. Much like @zrk, I just can't bring myself to take a loan out for a depreciating asset. You're losing money all around. Taking out a home equity loan for a major home improvement? Likely a winning proposition (do the math, though). You're just reducing the amount of value you're getting back from said improvement based on the interest rate you're paying. However, if you're cashing out investments to buy an asset like a car, you need to consider the potential gains you're giving up converting the investments to cash. It's mostly math... there is no equation that includes the fun you'll have with a car like ours. You have to be willing to give something up for that. In my case, it was worth it.

It also helps that you get a good deal when you buy three cars with cash at one time.

Plus I play poker with the Finance Manager at the dealership.

EDIT: Please note that I did not have the income to do all this during my last seven years as a fed. Nor should I - I take that very seriously. You guys don't pay me that well. It was my previous 20 years working as a contractor and other sources of income. I'm not making anywhere close as a federal employee to what I was making in private industry.
It definitely depends on the situation. As you said, why cash out 60K in assets to buy the car in cash when you can finance for <2% in an economy with 3-7% (maybe more šŸ˜¬) inflation. There's deffinately something to be said for never financing a luxury you cant afford to just buy outright though.

Good point about inflation - just another number in the equation. And then trying to project inflation over the term of a loan? This is why I pay someone much smarter than I am to tell me what the best move is. I didn't like the idea of this for years, though. I'm not paying fees for someone to tell me what to do with my money! Turns out by paying those fees I'm saving money/making more money (depending on how you want to look at it). I'd highly recommend it.

This happened at the mall by my house, so that black Supra is bound to run by me at some point and you can bet that yellow haired Ronald McDonald, Crocs wearing POS is going to mess with the wrong person. Hell if I had my shitty X5 and saw that Supra do this shit, I would block his car in šŸ˜‚. Itā€™s not like he is gonna ram into me to get away. Just block him in, turn the X5 off and leave.
It's completely possible that the Supra owner and the Prius owner are friends and it was a fun gag for a planned video. "Catless Prius, OMG no one has ever done it". Or else this guy is actually a POS. In the world we live in, with Youtube and all the other social media stunts we see daily, I can't put this past two immature people looking to get clicks.

I'm also a little bit suspect of this video. Can't make up my mind if it's fake or not.

It looks like neither end of the cat they pull out from under the Prius has been cut with the Sawzall, and I also don't see any u-bolt/bolts laying on the ground if they took it off the proper way. However, it does look like there is still an O2 sensor in the cat, that looks like it has a cut cable. It's also a bit suspect to me that the "good citizen" recording the video just happens to be in a vehicle with M-style wing mirrors while recording a supra steeling things. I know performance vehicles are much more common in Cali/warmer climates but still seems odd. However, it would be really dumb even by viral clickbait maker standards to crawl under a vehicle supported only by a rolling jack.

Not sure what to make of it.

Huh, If I was planning to gamble I would want the Casino employees to roll up in some 90s beater.
Emphasis on high stakes.

There are multiple players who are more than happy to throw around $20,000+ daily with zero fucks to give. Plus I don't deal.

Professional Forum lurker & reaction/ message ratio analyst.. i also monitor the amount of @zrk activity going on daily within the community.. judging by my calculations and spreadsheet i've created, @zrk can become a monderator on SupraMKV in no time.. of course, i've also accounted for possible hiccups within the formula and analyzed all possible outcomes... all still lead to a very high possibility of this outcome.
Iā€™m his assistant zrk analyst for when life gets in the way of him recording and analyzing data on zrkā€™s posts. I work in the shadows so, daddy zrk doesnā€™t notice me šŸ„¹
