So I’ve recently been wanting to add a downpipe and tune my Supra but I wanted to know what the reliability is like after those two mods. Is there anyone that could help me out with this question? Like have you had any problems with the car? Anything break that you had to replace ?

Reliability shouldn't be an issue.

I ran a downpipe, intake, & Titan Pro tune piggy back for a little less than a year with no issues. Now I am tuned by Justin from Twisted tuning on MHD with the same mods and again no issues. As long as you have a solid tune, you will be good to go. These cars can take the extra power. You won't regret making the jump.

Have had mine tuned and catless downpipe for about 10k miles now with no problems. Trackdays, trips to the drag strip and a weekend of abuse with Gridlife and not a single problem.

Lots and lots of folks here like to mod and upgrade powertrains. Just be aware, many of these mods (catless DPs, for example) do violate federal law which means the car is no longer street legal. As near as I can tell, most noone cares about this. It is a small risk, however.

Depending on when and if you sell the car, this can be an issue (look at the market for OEM DPs; a small number of modders were told to return the car to stock to enable their trade back to dealers.) Another possible risk is the rise of automated emissions detection stations. These exist, much like speed cameras, and I don't think its a stretch to figure out these may be more widely deployed in the next several years, especially if the green lobby discovers mods are a thing.

I really do think there's a small chance that sometime in the next few years the rise of mods violating federal law (for street-legal vehicles) may become a public scandal or issue. We already see that combustion engines are in the cross-hairs. It's worth having a plan when or if crackdown happens. At the least, I would not sell your OEM DP if you do an upgrade.

only time will tell really, most of the people only has it modded just a bit over a year or less. It also depends on the tune itself and what fuel is used. Ask the same question in 3-5 years and you will get a better answer. Most of people that have it heavily modded don't plan to keep this car more than 5 years either....... I don't think many are worried about longevity of the transmission, engine, fuel system, suspension, and etc........

why do you think that most heavily modded car owners won’t be keeping their cars for more than a year or two?

b58 engine on other bmw's such as 240i 140i etc
has been more than 4 years now and a lot of them got them modded as well !

not sure you noticed, many owners have been trying to sell their cars on the forum and Facebook group pages... A lot of people just bought the car to say they got a new Supra and they get tired of it and move on to the next car.

I normally keep my cars forever. I always been a huge import car guy. Supra was a dream car when I was growing up. I remember the rich HS kids owning some.

If that answers your question. Lol

Working in finance, I have noticed people don't really keep cars, especially sports cars for a long time. I see a lot of C8's and high end performance vehicles being sold with less than 2k miles on them. Enthusiasts are a dying breed, consumers nowadays want the latest and greatest then toss them once something better comes along. Me personally, I've never kept a new car for more than two years and the Supra most likely won't be an exception.

We have some customers with over 20k miles beating the crap out of their cars daily with downpipe/tune/flex .... never skipping a beat. These things are super reliable and no issues at this power level.

Let me know if I can help!

20k miles but for how long? Lol
Can’t really talk about reliability in such a short time frame of around a year or so. Maybe in a few years, we can revisit the conversation.

It’s like eating a bag of cheetos daily for 6 months and say your completely healthy. Keep eating it and after 5 years, then see how you are. Lol

I understand your logic but 20k miles is already a long ass distance to be pushing 30%+ more power than the factory intended without anything crapping out on you, not even a spun bearing or rod knock.

You're bound to start getting cramps and anal leakage after eating cheetos daily for a week.

the downpipe (catless or high flow catted) reduces the restriction from the stock cats, this helps the turbo spool easier and with less stress. Reliability is no concern whatsoever

When tuning the car, I recommend a tuner that has access to the ECU and can monitor how the car is reacting to the added boost. The Jb4 for example will kick your car back to the stock map if it overboots or is running too lean.

Flash tune (and the Jb4 as well) can datalog and show you how the car is handling the additional boost. As you see from the datalog, the car is running well within safety margins.

Get a proven tune, run the recommended map for your mods and you will be fine.
