Tonight, on a closed course, individual study, with professional drivers, we had a 21 Supra vs 19 Camaro ZL1 shootout. Camaro has r comp tires. Supra has 300tw tires. 0-80 Supra everytime. 30-105 Camaro by a car maybe car and a half. Super impressed with the Supra. Both bone stock
No kidding? I was just out yesterday on my Fireblade and got to play around with a ZL1. From about 60 - 140 mph. It wasn't even really a contest, but it was fun. I was wondering how the Supra would stack up against the ZL1, was thinking it would get smoked. Nice to know they are in the ballpark (especially stock vs stock).

I guess I can actually participate in this thread. First performance mod...put the Armytrix cat-back on today (well, I guess yesterday now). Factory cat.

How does the car feel with these springs? Can you actually feel it being lower and do you have a harder time with bumps and dips and driveways or does it feel like stock? Thanks.

Car feels great! Ride is a little stiffer then stock and completely dailyable. The ride height and stiffness in my opinion is how the car should have came. I do recommend ordering wheel spacers while you’re at it bc when you closed that wheel gap you’ll see how recessed the stock wheels are. I’ll send you some pix tonight.

Got the wheels powder coated gloss black, and while they were off I also installed the FC 12/15 spacers.

Also while the shop was powder coating the wheels, I had them do the factory strut bars in matte black.

I was completely surprised too. Having 650hp and wide sticky tires, I thought it was just going to win everywhere. But nope, the Supra launches pretty good. Neither used launch control either. Both cars had traction control off. Camaro is an auto as well.

Tonight, I am going to see if we can test the 21 Supra vs 15 Camaro Z28. 505hp but manual trans. I think that one will be a better roll race. I have driven this Camaro a few times and it has pretty bad traction issues, worse than the ZL1. Its not on r comp tires like the ZL1 so I can see why. Both cars are a blast to drive but I still prefer the Supra! Driving the ZL1 was what sold me on being ok with an auto trans and led me to getting the Supra.

Love seeing this. I've stuck to my guns for years on this. Came to the Supra from a v8 R8 6MT and then an Evora 400 6MT.

Bummer to admit...but a human just can't compete with the auto in the Supra. And especially not DCTs from basically anyone.

I'm going to miss shifting (still put my left foot down to push in the clutch when I start the car out of habit). But auto/DCT is superior in 2021.

Going to be even harder to get used to all electric. The Model S is a beast, but it's so boring.

Hoping there's a chance that hybrid tech is the best of both worlds in the end; electric down low, ICE on top.

I'll miss a good exhaust note!

So jealous! I dream about the manual R8. I'd still love to own a mid-engined car at some point. Either that or an NA1 NSX. They're basically going for the same price nowadays. Crazy.

I miss shifting. This is my first automatic in over two decades. But it's a great one. Turbocharged cars pair well with automatics as the transmission's shifting is quick enough to keep the boost up. I'd have to beat the hell out of my last 6-speed manual GTI to barely keep the boost going.

I drove a friend's Model S for a few weeks while they were out of the country. The initial acceleration is addicting. And some of the tech is cool. But that was it. The fit, finish, panel gaps and creaks and rattles made it seem like it was a kit car built in the 70s in someone's garage. But it's the future. I just hope they can improve on it.

I certainly am not ready to give up the sound and feel of an ICE just yet. I'll take a loaded RS5 Sportback over a Model S any day.

Ya I was one of the manual purist.... I have owned 53 cars so far and 50 of them have been a manual. When the supra came out, I said, nope, auto only, so stupid. Loved the way it looked but couldn't get over the trans. Told myself if it was dct, I would be fine with it. But no it has a convertor and is going to shift slow and be boring.... my dad is the owner of that ZL1 and I told him I would disown him as my father if he got an auto haha. Well he got it and then I drove it. It has the 10 speed equivalent of the supras trans. I honestly fell in love. And here we are with me owning a supra... People can hate all they want on it, until they actually drive one. I get that now.

Thank you! Good to know because I’m not getting any younger and honestly for me the stock height is good enough but a .8 inch drop isn’t that much lower that my body would complain too much. ? And if it drives like stock pretty much or better as you say then I’m all for it.

Yes please send pics because I do have Future Classic spacers already. Thanks!

Well put.

Although I'm not 53 cars deep like you, I'm a huge manual guy myself. The transmission choice from Toyota initially turned me off and (also) like you, it wasn't until I drove one that I realized how wrong I was. This tranny is great both on and off the track.

The car honestly surprises a lot of people (myself included). I smoke a ton of those higher hp cars on the track and they always come by afterwards to chat with me about the car. Never gets old when I tell them it's a stock 385 hp Supra.

Added the red billet aluminum GR Supra gas cap today...

Very cool looking in person but I’m probably the only one seeing it. ?
