factors that can raise the value of the car: easy bolt ons, reflash the currently locked computer, an established manual transmission swap.
These things undoubtedly lower the value of a car.

This car will depreciate over the next 10-15 years as it starts to show its age, and the B58s are pushed harder and harder to the breaking point. The reason the MKIV Supras are worth so much is the same reason, most are gone.

no doubt, I agree with this regards mods lowering a normal vehicle value for resale.

what I forgot to mention was the possible appreciation for those vehicles that remain stock years/decades later, while the other possibilities/potential of mods exist.

Hence the value of a low mileage unmodified mark IV now.

something only time will tell, for now, my Supra has already lost value since the day I bought it and drive it off the lot. I’m using it as my daily driver. No mods. gotta enjoy things too while you’ve got them.

To the point of it being a BMW sold by Toyota, we're already saving the like 15k depreciation the Z4 has. BMW depreciation is so bad that you can buy a used one that's three years old, and it'll still depreciate 30% just because you drove it off the lot
#facts

Bought a x5m fully loaded for $60k in January. It's a 2018 with 30k miles(at the time of purchase). Sales guy said it was $137k new. If that's true that's a huge drop in value, car had one previous owner and carfax show's no issues.

Nope, in that case I'd keep my GTI as my daily driver.
Definitely an apples-to-oranges comparison. If you can afford the GT4 while keeping your GTI as a daily driver, you'd be insane not to go that route. The GT4 is going to hold its value extremely well, and despite the tall gearing, is an absolutely phenomenal car to drive.

The Supra is a wonderful car, and in my opinion, an awesome daily driver. It's comfortable, gets phenomenal gas mileage (especially for what it is), looks great, and handles well. It's also a car that's within reach of 'normal' people, in the sub-$60k range, so depreciation is going to be a real thing, unless we all get lucky. Not impossible for it to hold its value, as it has a lot of the hallmarks of cars that do, but it's definitely safer to assume it will depreciate.

That said, the GT4, aside from daily-drivability, is better in virtually every way, and every Porsche with a 'GT' badge attached has traditionally accumulated value. That car is an absolute gem.

Seen it, but others reporting this is not true that have it done already. I have a 21, so I am already screwed.
Yeah - those that tried to re-flash with their old cal. The cal changes, so they're flashing a bad image.

Why worry about value of the car? There's no real way to know what they are worth down the line.

Mk4 Supras didn't start reselling for much higher until recently, and that mostly due to the car scene/Youtuber life.

If you like the car and can afford it, buy it. Don't use it as a financial investment.

In LA there is a saying regarding the difference between Wealthy people and Rich People.

Rich people blow their money on designer crap/cars. Wealthy people will drive some basic ass car that's decades old and you'd never know. :p

The Supra ain't a stock to trade.

Lol at many of you guys.
First of all, the new DME will be tunable soon. We all know this. It's the natural cycle of tuning modern DMEs. Secondly, Supras in general will retain their value for at least 1-2 years as expected production numbers will mostly likely be lower than projected due to the global Chip shortage. Which really has no end in sight.
You can find many current 2020s base 3.0s for around 49,990 USED with 20k miles+. Which was basically the originally retail MSRP of the supra. Currently Supras are holding their value as are MOST vehicles on the market.
In the Long Term I believe the Supra will hold its value if the final production number of 2025 supras is much lower than originally projected.
Supras are about as rare as a 911 on the roads last time I checked. They could become as rare as the Cayman (this is just by numbers produced vs all cars.)
All depends on how many get made in the end. For me if I'll probably trade it in for the MK6 if they even are really planning make one.

Couldn’t have said it better, enjoy what you have, it’s a special car. ?

if you still have the car 20 to 30 yrs from now, and it’s a car eveyone wants, you decide what you want to do…

They have not sold anywhere near that number. The most produced last year was 5800 units I think globally. in 20 is was about 5300 globally. Not a lot of them out there.
Right, that was for entire life cycle (again pre-COVID). No one is saying Toyota currently has sold anywhere near 36k units in the U.S. ?

I doubt they reach that number either. Don't think they will sell this platform more than 5 years.

If that... lots and lots of new tighter regulations are likely to be passed this year (and in the coming 2 as well). Naturally they won't take effect immediately, but if they're stiff enough and expensive enough to tool for - it's entirely possible that manufacturer resources will get diverted before they do. That won't necessarily mean fewer MKV's produced... but it might, or at least a much higher MSRP to offset that (and inflation in general).

The writing is on the wall for ICE vehicles in general... and performance models in particular. I'm wondering if Dodge will even exist in 10 years... considering "making cars like it's still 1975" is practically their mission statement. ;)

Foot Up Display?
I never really gave much thought nor care about depreciation when buying new cars.

Carry on.
Me neither.. but man, the prices used car dealers are willing to pay for my STI and Golf-R are unbelievable. Not selling mine, of course..

BTW, off topic, but if you folks are even thinking about buying something cool for your xmas season, buy it now. Things will go out of stock real quick, especially cool things. I bought like several grand of RC gear the last month to take me through Spring.

Should we do a forum white elephant exchange?
