If the new Supra does indeed come with a BMW motor, woud you still buy the car?

BMW is to use new 48V I6 based system (as Mercedes) on next 3 Series. Supra being a BMW, could also get that.
Yes, I also went into much more detail than that. The G20 is the next 3 series and it will use the B58TU. The S58 is the next M engine after the S55. S58 could be called S55TU if you wanted. I think we have at least some reason to beluevebwe will see 48v on the S58. If Toyota makes a performance trim, I suspect it will use the S58 also. This means hybrid technology, but the good ones, not the bad ones.

B58/S58 will not be utilized in the production Supra, but they are being used in the mules.

That said, this 48v system is definitely possible :D
Isnt this the same application used already in the Dodge Ram trucks/Jeep Wrangler?
Assuming the 48v system is used to help keep fuel economy numbers up (from only a standing still), this may be used with "auto-stop-start" technology.

Wouldn't this be patent infringing?

EDIT: Whoops. Didn't realize you guys were referring to electrically assisted turbos.

Interesting. They've got heaps of km on a mule that doesn't have the production engine?

That means they're either going to do more testing with new engine later, or it is squirreled away in Japan where we haven't seen it...

I would assume they'd want a serious amount of km on a new engine - and not just dyno time?

That smile... it's making me second guess the first part!

I don't want to give anything more away until release.

That said, somewhere in the middle of your reply may provide hints :)
A70 fair enough, but what about the release...any details?

So.....maybe a car with the new engine is testing in Japan.....

Thanks A70! I hope it's a weapon. Designing your own engine and contracting it to BMW, yet having it not based on any current engine seems counter-intuitive to bringing costs down.... unless BMW plan to use the Toyota-designed engine for some of their units?

So many theories... I wish they'd just give us the damn specs already haha... So I know whether I have to start selling the Benz to fund one... :p
