am I the only one that thinks overboost is pointless?

if i want max powers, I want to put my foot to the firewall, not push a button for extra 20s of fknwoosh....

I guess I'm coming from mountain road/circuit mentality, not highway cruiser....

Things called "overboost" move cars out the showroom, I guess. First thing I'm doing if I get one early is getting it to somebody who can crack the ECU and "overboosting" it by turning up the boost till things start breaking.

apparently the overboost thing is available on launch and is what allows the car to drop 0-60 times... I'm not sure about anything definitive though.

I think its a clever way to not compete with higher power models of the Supra (or flash upgrades and such if available), as well as Lexus F, maybe BMW?, all while actually having 380hp lol. But that's conjecture for now...

No button press will be required. As with the Fiesta ST it will be automatically triggered at full throttle and it typically lasts from 15 to 20 seconds so plenty of time for any conceivable use short of a long track straight.

yeah, that weight is still incorrect.. with the new motor, it sits at 3050lbs (recent info).

it was in the 29xx range with B58.
I believe you, but don't understand how it can be that low if the Z4 weighs in at 3,384. What is so different about the supra to cut 300 lbs?

Or are you saying the quoted 3,384 for the BMW is incorrect?

I actually have no idea what the curb weight is for the Z4; I've never asked or been told. There was a massive performance difference between them on track though at one point, and perhaps it was due to far more heft among other things, but that's just a guess.

In any case, the Supra is fairly sparse and uses composites to its advantage in order to keep weight and cog down.

I guess the only reason it isn't activated the whole time is so that it meets an appropriate emissions cycle then? Seems very odd...

Thanks for info

Could be partly that; if the Euro CO2 tests are done in the non-boosted state then it's a way of sneaking some extra power in at a lower pollution classification resulting in less emissions tax per unit of performance for the buyer.

But the deactivation after a set time may be primarily due to heat soak dangers. The engine and/or turbo system may reach a heat threshold after 15 or so sec in overboost that require the boost power be cut back to avoid damage or excessive wear to the turbo or engine.
