Apparently a lot of cars will be affected by the elimination of the 3G network.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g39301678/3g-internet-sunset-cars/

According to the article regarding BMW’s:

No model list provided.

Canceled services: As a result of the sunset of 3G service by wireless carrier partners, by February 2022, vehicles factory-equipped with 3G telematics devices or retrofitted 2G vehicles will no longer be able to receive any ConnectedDrive/BMW Assist services.

Some vehicles factory-equipped with 4G telematics devices will no longer have access to services that require a voice connection, such as BMW Assist eCall and Concierge Services, but will continue to receive certain ConnectedDrive/BMW Assist services such as Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information, Remote Services and BMW Online, depending on your BMW model.

Remedy: Certain cars can be upgraded for free at the dealer; others will be ineligible. BMW says it is contacting customers.

Does anyone know if this will affect the Supra?

On the plus side, BMW/Toyota won't be able to push OTA updates anymore so there would be no risk of people having their ecu's locked remotely *shrug*

I got the same reply last year, Norway actually switched off 3G already last November so I was a bit worried and checked prior to buying the car.
Supras are undoubtedly equipped with a 4G as the online services still work ? . So we are OK for a while at least.
I'm actually using the news feed in the car when stuck in traffic so it would be a pitty if it ran on 3G and got discontinued
