I think the biggest current competitor to the Cayman is the BMW M2 whether you look at the old N55 powered version or the upcoming S55 powered version. Im not sure about the N55 version, but Im guessing it weighs close to 3200 - 3300 pounds and has roughly 360hp.
3450lbs... they're not heavy by modern standards, but they also aren't super light.

I could see the car weighing in at 3300lbs. Put performance aside, the safety requirements alone would limit Toyota's abilities to make this car a 3000lb car without hiking up the price close to $100k from using exotic materials (CF, etc..). A 3000lb Supra is very doable....just not for $60k IMHO. Now, the higher end model may get that special treatment with carbon fiber roof, hood, hatch and a few other light weigh goodies....but again, probably cost more.

What im waiting for, personally, is to find out which DME it's going to use ;). Praying the DME used won't have the VIN matching feature....this would be a huge turn off.

Porsche can rely on their fancy badge, sadly Toyota not so much.
Maybe in their eyes, but not in that of the vast majority of the Supra's potential customers. I suspect Toyota won't be arrogant or stupid enough to price themselves out of the market by pretending "Supra" = "Porsche" in terms of desirability.
^ I agree. That and the fact that Toyota has not had a serious sports car in almost 2 decades in the US. The sports car competition from all car manufactures has improved within these 2 decades.

You guys forget all these same people with high end cars became aware of the Supra nameplate pretty quickly back in 93' when they all got used to seeing our beautiful taillights :drive:. Not to mention, Supra's are still pretty damn dominate on the roads today. Regardless of all that, anytime people see an MKIV on the street they instantly know what it is. I mean EVERYONE... from kids with civics, to midlife crisis guys with Vettes, to the Porsche aficionados to Lambo and Ferrari guys. If Toyota delivers and is able to put out a sporty, easily tunable, light and reliable car... it will sell :nixon::beer:
