Obviously it wasn't. It was decided by pit strategy. The nature of Monaco is that it's probably the only race where it's decided by qualifying.

It’s sad but yeah it’s way, way beyond time for Monaco to go. But too much money at stake for F1 to do the right thing and retire Monaco.Alonso single handedly proved why Monaco is a shit track and shouldn’t be brought back next year
did I misunderstand the commentators today? It sounded like Monaco isn’t worked out for the future? It’s sad but yeah it’s way, way beyond time for Monaco to go. But too much money at stake for F1 to do the right thing and retire Monaco.
Not this time obviously, or in 2016. But generally it's decided in qualifying.Obviously it wasn't. It was decided by pit strategy.
Yes, the commentators did say that. Monaco has some unique deals around advertising and TV coverage that other tracks don't get, which is an annoyance to F1/Liberty. Plus their hosting fee is cheap compared to what other countries pay. I tend to think the public statements are posturing to work out a better financial deal in Liberty's favor. But at the end of the day, the racing there is trash. No great shakes to me if F1 never goes there again, whereas losing Spa or Silverstone would be a travesty. It's already pretty ridiculous there won't be a French Grand Prix and Germany is every other year.did I misunderstand the commentators today? It sounded like Monaco isn’t worked out for the future?
this was one of the better Monaco GP’s that I can think of, but only because weather affected it. Racing wasn’t great, besides Gasly when he changed to inters. I don’t recall who he was trying to pass, but once by half a lap later he was already 4 seconds ahead, just shows how bad passing is when you have a way way faster car.
Happy for Perez, happy for Sainz also.

Good points. Chalk it up to my feeling a certain kind of way about no F1 in Germany...Remember when Mercedes had to buy tickets just to get the German GP to sell out? How about the time that Seb was leading the drivers points going into the German GP AND Merc was leading the constructors and they still couldn’t sell out? Three reasons: 1) high ticket prices 2) higher fan expectations 3) waning interest in the German audience as a whole.
F1 will always follow the money. When I started watching in the early ‘80’s, Bernie and Max would have never dreamed of Saudi Arabia or Vietnam, and when they thought about Miami, it was Cocaine and retirees.

Either way, Monaco has outlived its usefulness as a points race. Great spectacle, terrible "racing". Maybe make it an exhibition or something.
Great article in The Race today about Jos complaining behind the scenes about RB unfairly favoring Checo at Monaco. Then RB goes and inks Checo for another two years. ? Definitely the right call extending him though.
Nonsense. Red Bull isn't Mercedes. Checo still had to pit in Barcelona, so the win for him was never on. People forget that tiny little tidbit. They didn't want them fighting, because the cars were on the limit temperature wise.I'm just glad that sainz was 2nd place between checo & max. otherwise, it would've been max's win and checo 2nd. no win for checo. And I feel for leclare... twice denied win on his home GP..
