This just happened on my 2021. No damage anywhere on car but steering linkage broke whilst backing car out of garage. Toyota picked up the car and have refused warranty coverage. Car only has 1700 miles, and is stock car with no mods and never been tracked. Also found that 2020 Supras and BMW Z4 had a recall for this exact failure. Dealer first agreed to cover the repair, then I mentioned possible legal action. Then they had someone from Toyota inspect vehicle, and they are now denying warranty coverage. Any suggestions?

That's crazy
Did they denied it claiming it is road damage ?
That sucks , but I think if Toyota claims physical damage then insurance should kick in to cover the damage
I had a bent oil cooler on my previous F80 from running over a large piece of debris on the freeway and dealer said same thing , but insurance covered the repairs

Honestly- some advice.

Never threaten legal action. Just do it if you think you have just cause. The second you mention "legal action" a whole different department takes over. Big companies and corporations don't deal with this shit. I've worked places, where the official policy is, 'once lawyers are brought into it, or even hinted at' it's no longer the hourly employee's problem.'

When I was a kid and worked at Best Buy if someone threatened legal, you just handed them a business card with legal's info and refused to talk to them further, because, at this point, you have to assume that anything you say will be used in court. You also got flagged in the system with your computer/tv/iPod's serial number as, 'legal reference.'

When you mentioned legal, the entire repair was sent up to a completely different chain of command. It's possible that now your only recourse is to sue.

Pay for the repair, get your car back, then legal action if necessary.

Yes I realize everything changed once I mentioned possible litigation. Trying to avoid insurance claim as that would affect resale value. Or should I just let State Farm and Toyota fight it out. Photo of the wheel that Toyota said I had hit something that hard to snap the linkage - not a mark on the wheel

Wow - be glad that happened while backing out of the garage.

Not exact car, but you get the idea.

What else are they doing for 5,000 dollars? Will the tech's wife sleep with you?

They want $5k for the repair
It is a $60k car.. I’d just pay it, enjoy the car. I mean if someone can fix it for you at a more economical price, go for it, but life is too short to be worried about $5k.

Wait there’s a recall for this on 2020? I haven’t heard anything about that

Horrible advice. $5k is highway robbery for that $120 part and an alignment. I can change that out in under an hour.

Any good shop will do that for under $500.
