Don't you mean, "What will I buy if the new Supra is a 7yr-wait failure?"We should rename this thread in „What would I buy if the new Supra is too expensive?“.
So will it be a failure if you don’t like it?Don't you mean, "What will I buy if the new Supra is a 7yr-wait failure?"
I don't dictate what is considered success or failure for Toyota Motor Company....I think sales numbers will speak for themselves on that. Obviously everyone has their own opinion, right? However, there are cars that have failed to accomplish their goal immediately after release. For example, the new gen NSX I feel (as do many others, and their sales numbers show it) is a failure. Not because it's not fast, or stylish, or high-tech....but because it lacked alot of what made the original NSX so special. The new NSX doesn't appeal to anyone! No one talks about it, or even praises them for anything special. Honda/Acura heavily steered away from the previous designs. So will it be a failure if you don’t like it?
Thank god everybody can have his own opinion.
I’m sure Toyota won’t fail. But I’m repeating myself and don’t want to bore you any more.
I do agree with you in most points. But the NSX is not suitable for a comparison in my eyes. It’s a quite different kind of car at a much higher price, so the range of potential buyers is much smaller.I don't dictate what is considered success or failure for Toyota Motor Company....I think sales numbers will speak for themselves on that. If the new Supra will be a failure in the same manner as the NSX, then yes I will NOT buy a MKV Supra because I believe it will not appeal to me or too many potential buyers. So far, from what we know....the MKV Supra seems to be following in the same steps as the NSX; long bring-to-market time, questionable styling, overpriced, under-powered, and not a true Japanese built car. Again, this is what we know so far....so, at this point anything can change before release date.
I really wish people would stop with the NSX comparison. That car is a failure because of its high price tag. I don't know many people that can drop $155k for one. ($180k-$200k with options and mark up).
I'm not saying the Supra is identical to the NSX....im saying from what we know so far, signs are pointing to the same fate. The MKV Supra doesn't need to cost $150k to be considered a failure. My point is don't compare them from a price point against each other, compare them in category. The Supra, in the category of cars it will be marketed in, will fail in the same sense as the NSX did in it's category. I'm not saying the Supra will succeed when compared to the NSX....these are two different categories. However, the NSX failed as a supercar in its category against it's rivals....price wasn't the only factor. The Supra (if Toyota isn't careful) will suffer the same fate, except in a different category (i.e., $65k Supra that cannot outperform a $55k Vette).I do agree with you in most points. Let’s see what will happen. I would bet the MKV will sell better than every Supra in the past.
Small revisions here and there I'm sure, we do still have a few months left before pre-production tooling and stuff, I believe.
Basically, if you like this:

Then you like the MKV Supra.
If you don't like it, then well... I guess it's time to look at something else lol.
I think you are on point about the NSX. Honda stray to far from the original car that everyone loved so much. The 2.0 version is ugly, overweight, bloated, and to expensive. The original made me think of a Ferrari, the reboot looks like a R8 with a bird beak on it. I have said this before, but imo Honda should have just made it a RWD, TTV6 and priced it at $100k. Also they should have styled it after the HSC concept.I don't dictate what is considered success or failure for Toyota Motor Company....I think sales numbers will speak for themselves on that. Maybe the 3.0 inline 6 is the only option for you (and me too), but don’t forget the “smaller” 4 cylinder version. I think this will be the one that sells more often (all over the world). It’s not only the Supra Lovers in here that are waiting for the MKV since a long time. The market is much bigger with different people with different needs. And also differente comparisons. For instance in Germany (and maybe some more European Countries) no one cares about the Vette.I'm not saying the Supra is identical to the NSX....im saying from what we know so far, signs are pointing to the same fate. So much true!Europe is all about taxes and taxes and that is why the 2.2liter mustang along with its legend name and good looks sells so good!I believe the Supra being developted along with bmw will make even the most fanatic bmw fans(and in Europe they are too many) to look it more as their child than a japanese coupe!Prestige is everything here and Germans are top, lexus, infinity, acura, even honda itself they are way back in the gameMaybe the 3.0 inline 6 is the only option for you (and me too), but don’t forget the “smaller” 4 cylinder version. Well, I hope the market is not leaning in the direction of "all show and no go." Sort of defeats the whole purpose of a "sports car." Also, Europeans have never really been keen on buying big displacement motors, primarily because of petrol costs. So, small displacement motors will obviously be the top choice....but here in the states, it's all about the "super size" menu. Personally, I would love to see a super stout drive-train....all the other stuff is just fluff. So much true!Europe is all about taxes and taxes and that is why the 2.2liter mustang along with its legend name and good looks sells so good!I believe the Supra being developted along with bmw will make even the most fanatic bmw fans(and in Europe they are too many) to look it more as their child than a japanese coupe!Prestige is everything here and Germans are top, lexus, infinity, acura, even honda itself they are way back in the game
You are damn right! Petrol is expensive in here (because of the taxes) and engines with high volume and high consumption are getting more and more rare. On top the “save the environment” politics are forced that much that it even hurts. Don’t misunderstand me: Saving the environment is basically very important. But car drivers are focused more than any other persons or industry in here and it feels like anywhere else in the world no one cares that much about it. That sucks.Well, I hope the market is not leaning in the direction of "all show and no go." Sort of defeats the whole purpose of a "sports car."
