Hmm What AM I driving?
I think you guys are right about the NSX, for what it's worth I had a blast in it and if it wasn't so damn expensive I'd probably would like to own one. Most people I think forget about all the stupid thing the moment they launch that thing. It's simply amazing tech.

I have something that Honda should have done and this could be a lesson for Toyota too (hoping that it's not going to be the same issue) and that is they called it "NSX" is this car was named anything else but the nSX it wouldn't be compared to the old car. It would just be it an of itself. And i think that's the issue with the "Supra" Name, we have so many people seeing Supra as something different that when they see the MKV it Mostly doesn't live up so far to their expectations (even without all the specs and looks released yet) This is because some people see the Supra as the A70 or the A80 or the A60 etc. an upgraded 86 Or they expect to get a Toyota version of the LC or even a BMW Z coupe M. I think it's the name and legacy association that push the NSX And thus the NSX flopped because "it simply not an NSX... It shouldn't have the same name". And I hope this wont be the case for the MKV.

I think using Legacy as a marketing tool should imho remain with cars like the Mustang,Camero,911 etc. because these cars are just evolution of eachother and there is one out every half decade. If something Has been gone forever, I think just let it go. Unless its a giant comeback like the Ford GT etc. Notice most of these big name plate comback only seem to succeed if it's a supercar or something expensive. With the Supra sorta being that affordable Halo, I don't think it works.

Heck if they called this the 90 and then used that 86 marketing where it relates back to the supra etc. Im sure it wouldn't have as much boos as it has even if it's not out yet.

Well, I hope the market is not leaning in the direction of "all show and no go." Sort of defeats the whole purpose of a "sports car." Also, Europeans have never really been keen on buying big displacement motors, primarily because of petrol costs. So, small displacement motors will obviously be the top choice....but here in the states, it's all about the "super size" menu. Personally, I would love to see a super stout drive-train....all the other stuff is just fluff.
Yup, and or more power aswell. The TTs almost out sold the NAs two to one.

The problem with Honda is that they don't listen to their customers. Honda fanboys wanted a new CRX, and Honda stupidly dropped in a hybrid system into the CR-Z that no one had asked for. It also didn't help that their retarded CEO at the time Takanobu Ito, killed off the V8 RWD sedan and the V10 HVS in flavor of something more greener. AKA the hugely successful RLX and hybrid NSX. Needless to say hes no longer CEO...

R4: When I became CEO, there were a V8 RWD platform, and a V10 NSX on its last development phase. All of them wonderful cars. So when we decided to cancel all those programs one by one, the reaction of the R&D department was very violent, they were really angry, enough to say to me: "Don't dare show up here in the labs!". Yet people's needs in different countries and regions are different. So what we should pursue is "developing cars that will be loved by the different people in different places". That's what the Lehmann shock taught us.

Maybe the 3.0 inline 6 is the only option for you (and me too), but don’t forget the “smaller” 4 cylinder version. I think this will be the one that sells more often (all over the world). It’s not only the Supra Lovers in here that are waiting for the MKV since a long time. The market is much bigger with different people with different needs. And also differente comparisons. For instance in Germany (and maybe some more European Countries) no one cares about the Vette.
It sounds like the 4 cylinder will be an EU and Asia only model. Agree, I think the 2.0 will definitely sell better in places like Japan and Europe.

We may also offer inline 4 variant for select markets where costs of a larger engine can be prohibitive in ownership or registration costs.

I started looking at other options. I just can’t get over how the new Supra is a slightly modified Z4. The A80 was and still is a Special car, now that the A90 is going to be so connected to BMW it just took that specialness away. Yeah, yeah, I read all the articles and it’s all nice fluff pieces. I am willing to put real money down that when both cars are out, the performance numbers will be just about the same. The A90 will never be allowed to become better than the Z4, BMW owns the rights to how great the A90 can be and that is why I am not as interested anymore.

Thats great, good for you. Obviously you haven't. A70 has told us the Supra was 10 second faster than the Z4 around the tracks. Not to mention that Moto has said it has already beat the 911.

While I do like the A80 what was so special? It wasn't bespoke; it used a modified SC/Soarer platform. Again, you haven't read the press release and interviews. This is not simply a reskin Z4. The new co-develop platform was made to meet the needs of both BMW and Toyota. So when you think about it, we're just switching out a SC platform for a "Z4 platform".

But then Tada helped bmw to better the z4 and now I believe they’re pretty close in times

I'm not sure, I just know that Tada said it will drive different from the Z4. The Toyota being more of a pure sports car; while the BMW will be more of a luxury cruiser. Moto has also said the Supra is like 300lbs lighter than the Z4 because the unibody is different.

Yeah I was hoping the Z4 would be like a Supra convertible, but the more I read into it the more I feel that the Supra is going to be the one to get if I'm looking for something similar to a Cayman. Meanwhile I don't think the new Z4 is an alternative to the Boxster, since I feel like it's going to be more comfort oriented. I could be wrong, and it could be closer to like an S2000 in terms of it being a roadster. Honda needs to bring another good convertible tbh. I'm sad that there wont be a targa Supra, I really like open top driving.

Sorry, but did you guys read something about the upcoming Z4? It already has been tested by several journalists. No one said it’s comfortable or luxury cruiser.

Go over to bimmerpost. The Z4 will be heavier and have more luxury features, hence a higher rumored price tag. Their insider has said the Supra will come in lower and will be more barebone.

Sorry so much, but what do you guys think happened!? In between you all should know that I like Toyota nearby as much as BMW. So don’t be worry with me opening your eyes:

The upcoming Z4 is a pure BMW. There is nothing from Toyota in it. No parts, no know how. The upcoming Supra is a Z4 with a few other parts and a different fine tuning at the suspension. That’s it. Wake up.
