I think you guys are right about the NSX, for what it's worth I had a blast in it and if it wasn't so damn expensive I'd probably would like to own one. Most people I think forget about all the stupid thing the moment they launch that thing. It's simply amazing tech.

I have something that Honda should have done and this could be a lesson for Toyota too (hoping that it's not going to be the same issue) and that is they called it "NSX" is this car was named anything else but the nSX it wouldn't be compared to the old car. It would just be it an of itself. And i think that's the issue with the "Supra" Name, we have so many people seeing Supra as something different that when they see the MKV it Mostly doesn't live up so far to their expectations (even without all the specs and looks released yet) This is because some people see the Supra as the A70 or the A80 or the A60 etc. an upgraded 86 Or they expect to get a Toyota version of the LC or even a BMW Z coupe M. I think it's the name and legacy association that push the NSX And thus the NSX flopped because "it simply not an NSX... It shouldn't have the same name". And I hope this wont be the case for the MKV.

I think using Legacy as a marketing tool should imho remain with cars like the Mustang,Camero,911 etc. because these cars are just evolution of eachother and there is one out every half decade. If something Has been gone forever, I think just let it go. Unless its a giant comeback like the Ford GT etc. Notice most of these big name plate comback only seem to succeed if it's a supercar or something expensive. With the Supra sorta being that affordable Halo, I don't think it works.

Heck if they called this the 90 and then used that 86 marketing where it relates back to the supra etc. Im sure it wouldn't have as much boos as it has even if it's not out yet.
This is what I have been saying all along....the name of a a car has significant impact on a car. I have said over and over again, that had the MKV Supra been called something else (i.e., GT-1), it would have been welcomed more "gracefully" and seen substantially less negativity than what we are seeing now as a "MKV Supra." It wouldn't have this A80 shadow hovering around it. The reason for this, especially for the Supra brand is because "Supra" is synonymous for the JZA80's. People can disagree, and that is fine, but when you tell someone "I have a Supra", the first thing they say is "no way!....is it a 6spd Twin Turbo??"....referencing the A80's. No one say's "no way...is it a 7MGTE?" or "no way....it is a 22R." If Toyota was that oblivious to the fact that the market today wanted to see a MKIV successor, than I believe the MKV will be a failure, again as a "Supra." I personally (knowing what I know so far about the MKV Supra) would be very interested in purchasing one if it wasn't called a Supra. To me, nothing about the MKV Supra, says "Supra!" Not the spy shot interiors, the size, the rumored components, etc... I see this as something else, with a Supra badge on it. That is why (sorry Guff, agree to disagree) I still feel that this MKV Supra is a Z4 in wolf clothing. I am not afraid or embarrassed of being wrong, and truly hope that the MKV Supra will in fact be a different car than the Z4 when official specs are out, but from what we all know up to this point....what facts do we have of the MKV Supra not being a differently marketed Z4???

Toyota made a big mistake with this car. This whole cost savings thing is bs, they sure don’t have a problem blowing money on Lexus. This is a half baked idea to save on costs, resurrect the Supra name, right the wrongs they made with the 86 and learn something from BMW. This will be a fun car but it is meant for those who wanted more of the 86, not for those coming off on an A80. Toyota doesn’t care about the 11,000+ A80 owners, it’s small fries for them. They are probably more excited about the potential BMW shoppers that will want a hardtop Z4. Smart business but it shows how little they care about the real fans.

Of course this is just my opinion.

If this was about Toyota USA, I would agree to some extent, but you can't say that Tada-san doesn't care about the fans

I think that he got a 2nd chance to make the 86 he wanted, wasn’t so focused on making the Supra everyone wanted.

So the 86 that Tada-san always wanted has an inline 6, weighs 400lbs heavier, and is auto only?
If it’s faster than the 86 and handles better than the 86 then yes. It’s like from a non-turbo A80 to the TT A80.

We have our disagreements, that’s ok. If I was in charge of making the 86 and was so limited on what I car do with it and the results is not exactly what I wanted , I too would be super excited to get a 2nd chance at doing this right. To me, the A90 is is what the 2nd gen 86 should be. Again, just my opinion.

You guys are like watch dogs for Tada, it’s very strange.

Supercars are not Grand Tourer’s. That’s all.
But according to A80 owners its a supercar. So in your own words it can't a GT after all.

Were you in the bathroom when god was handing out common sense? Do you even understand what you are saying? None of what you just said ever came from me or even implied.

Are you even old enough to watch PG13 movies? Just curious.
