You would take the Supra over a Cayman GT4 or GT4 RS? I was considering buying a GT4 (the RS wasn't out yet) when shopping for a fun car - almost pulled the trigger - but decided on the Supra ultimately because I'm tracking it. If I crash it I can just buy another one and still be under the cost of a GT4. If it were only for the street, I would have been hard pressed not to buy the GT4.
A couple of friends with GT4s were telling me its a bit too hard for regular street use and that the GTS would be a better streetable option. More or less similar to how the GT3 RS is a bit too track focused and a 911 GTS is more comfortable for street duty.

It's definitely stiff, but "too stiff" is subjective.

Track friend is trying to sell me his 2016 GT3. Along your lines I would be reluctant to thrash it like i do the Supra. Be too paranoid about retaining its value.

also fwiw:
Two friends track GT4s AND drive them on the street. Not too harsh- I have gotten to drive both of them on the track and street. Basically, Porsche brilliant in every way.

Is any Porsche worth $$/value of fun or performance??? Well, only you and your wallet can decide that. Factually you can not really say anything bad about Porsche handling, performance, reliability, etc on and on

I would for sure take a Supra over any Cayman. But not because it's a better performing car or anything, but really because I'm not at all a fan of the Cayman and I think the price point is too close to the 911.

I’d be worried more about hitting something or getting hit by someone and repairs with long lead times on those specialty cars that it would kind of ruin the whole experience for me.

The places I drive, my Supra does perfectly fine.. and honestly cheap enough I can replace the car if something would’ve happened to mine. I don’t think I can say that about a GT4.. first finding a replacement is an issue..

One of my track buddies is on his 2nd GT3RS. While he was doing the Optima Ultimate Street Car series last year, he sent it into a wall and totaled it. Obviously, insurance didnt cover it. He sold it as is and bought another one. Got to pay to play. Make sure you can afford losing what you drive if you are going to track it!

I have noticed that the Caymans and Boxsters do get the "black sheep" treatment from most Porsche owners in their 911s. Everyone either bought a 911 or is thinking of getting one at some point.

On a separate note, DIY maintenance on the Supra is largely easier than on Porsches. Engine accessibility goes a long way.

I've always loved the 911. One of these days I'm going to get one.

Or get track insurance.
Track insurance cranks an expensive weekend up a few more notches.

I don't have the balls to run without it though.

Not a Corvette.

I don't go to the track without it. I am less concerned with my driving and more concerned with unforeseen things like someone losing an engine in front of me and coating the track or dumping coolant.

I've had some friends lose cars because of that. Zero errors on their part but as soon as you hit that liquid, you are along for the ride.

I consider it a part of going to the track with a modern car.

Another reason I skipped the Cayman GT4 and decided on the Supra. I could afford the GT4 but tracking it would bankrupt me.

Not to derail thread, just out of curiosity, what is the average range price for track insurance? Been wanting to try tracking and just curious. Thanks!
