@corry29 .. Toyota and Mazda didn’t make the scion IA. It’s simply a rebadged Mazda 2. It just has Toyota logos. Toyota had zero involvement in that car.

Imagine if Toyota takes the Miata chassis and makes a small car!! That’s something I’m on board with!!!!!

My excitement level is very low
Honestly, I'm still trying to get over the fact, that (in my opinion), 90% of this car is BMW.
I own a Scion FRS/Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ etc etc. And 95% of that car is Subaru. I'm still not over that.

My wishful thinking is that I wish Toyota would just fine-tune their 2GR-F(XX) V6 engine and incorporate a twin turbo setup to that engine
Hear me out!!
At least following with history on how Toyota shared their 2JZ engine with Lexus IS and Lexus GS at that time, with the Supra having the twin turbo variant of the 2JZ. If not the 2GR, THEN at least have it incorporate one of their other V6 engines and fine tune it to incorporate twin turbo.

I mean am I the only one that thinks like this? I just want a Toyota

Toyota I love you, but make your own cars godammit.
Yes, make your own cars (that people care about)! I am eyeing the new 6spd 2.0l powered Corolla wagon though, would make a good DD for the wife's next vehicle. But therein is the problem with modern Toyota vehicles actually made by them, they're what you get for your spouse, parents etc. If you want something fun and fast, even if it has a Toyota badge on it, its made by someone else.

"90% of this car is BMW."
"I own a Scion FRS/Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ etc etc. And 95% of that car is Subaru. I'm still not over that."

Let me correct that. 99% of this car is BMW. As far as we know the only Toyota tech\parts in this thing will be Toyota Safety Sense.
And I'd say about 80% of the GT86 is Subaru. Toyota tranny, diff, power steering and fuel injection. I can deal with a lesser manufacturer making the body and interior if the drivetrain is mostly Toyota. BWM drivetrain though, scary.

Uhm, and about your bit about making a Twin Turbo 2gr, you are out of date man. Google what's powering the next LS500 (and current rumor mill is saying will be in the 2020 is400)...

Let me correct that. As far as we know, we have no idea the percentage split between each company yet.

I would just like to add that the new Land Cruiser 300 series will have the same exact engine in the LS500. I think it will probably have some minor tweaks to favor more torque than HP and it will also be found in the Tundra/Sequoia platform as well replacing the 5.7L. My guess is Toyota didn't want it's Halo sports car sharing the same engine as it's SUVs/Trucks :dunno:

Yes I know, that's why I clarified in parenthesis, "in my opinion" about the % of ownerships.

I chose the 2GR, because I was just following the "history" of what the MK4 and the IS's and GS's had in the past with the shared 2JZ. Seeing how, the current IS and GS uses the 2GR, that's why I based it off the 2GR. I mean who knows, maybe next year, Toyota/Lexus will be using a different V6. My point is that they should tune and apply twin turbo, to whatever V6 engine Toyota is/was gonna use on their IS/GS cars. I'm just following tradition. Of course, if I wasn't, I would apply other engines from their other line of cars. But I'm going by tradition.

But obviously we can all throw tradition out the window, seeing how it's going to be a BMW engine.

As I clarified, "in my opinion".

Haha! Everyone is not getting the overall point I'm trying to make, but instead nitpicking on the opinionated stuff.

But it's all good.

That doesn't make a lick of sense. The MKIV had a straight 6 as the engine,. While Toyota could have added a V6, they couldn't call it a supra with house annoyed the public and enthusiast world would be. Whether the hate would be worse than it is now for partnering is a toss up. Who makes very good straight 6 engines in this day and age?

What do you know, BMW makes them and still does when they became partners. Logically to save cost and keep "tradition", they used the BMW engine with their traditional Toyota way to assess the maintenance and reliability of the engine. We also don't know how much effort was shared between companies. Most certainly the parts are all BMW, but that doesn't mean Toyota hasn't performed their own edits that it isn't simply a BMW.

Now, wait for the LC500/RCF that will be using a new V6 engine.Perhaps the same as the TS050?

I have been thinking about this for a while now and I am not sure if dropping the Lexus V35a in the Supra would have the same "outrage" as the bmw partnership. The GTR made the transition just fine. The V35a make more power and torque than the B58 and would be better for weight distribution, not to mention it's free since it's already done. After the car is released, I hope we can get a big picture explanation.

Lexus is missing out big time by not putting the V35a is the RC, LC, and GS variants if you ask me
