That's the only thing that concerns me. Everything about this car is exactly what I'm looking for and I would have gotten the auto even if a manual was offered. After the reviews of how it's actually more of a great street cruiser that's good on the track than the other way around I'm liking it even more.

The 86 had it's good share of powertrain issues in the first model years, I might leave it stock for the first year just to keep the warranty incase anything happens but that's doubtful.
Although the B58 is way more reliable than BMWs of 10 years ago, I hope Toyota was able to voice their concerns with this. But as long as the car gets Toyota approved gaskets and hoses, this car should be a tank.

With that being said, there are some design issues of the BMW that I don't like.
An easy one to address from the start is the ecu and wiring in the engine bay without a box/cover. I know modern Toyota's do this as well but it is always a cause for concerns for me.
The biggest concern for me is the Vanos and timing chain on the back of the motor, meaning replacing these requires pulling the motor.

They start speaking English at the12:35 min. mark, but start getting into the car review at 14:36+ min mark for those of you that just want to hear what they say.

The driver also hints there's something 'more' coming in terms of a possible bigger car. I wonder if just maybe this could be in the works:

I think it might be the LC-F

If there's one word that scares me in the automotive community, it is Vanos. Gonna watch this video though, looks to be informative.
It is definitely a nightmare for those of use who do their own work or aren't made of money. But I do believe BMW has thought this through or it would cost them a fortune in warranty work since its 25+ hours worth of work instead of the ~8 it used to be. On the bright side, they can actually make a reliable timing chain (I'm looking at you Audi)

You know, I have a bmw dealership two miles on either side of where I live. What are the odds they let me test drive without having interest in buying anything? That can give me a chance to know what the M240i is like

100% if you say youre there for a test drive. I test drive cars all the time but only on Mondays or Tuesdays when it is slow so I am not taking away the salesperson's time from those interested in buying

Will it help if I come in with an FRS? Or would that paint a bad image? I might go to one Tuesday. Do I walk in or make an appointment?

Nope, it just shows you want to move up market.
Just walk in

Edit: To be clear, "Nope" as in it won't paint a bad image

Including if it has the word “double” in front of Vanos.

Does anyone else think its odd that MotorTrend is the only major publication that hasn't publish their review? It makes me wonder if they were the only one that got to do an in-depth test drive and is still being embargo by Toyota.

5 Supras currently
reading through the review, I picked 2 interesting thing.

2) for the past 4 years BMW and Toyota has not worked together on either the supra or the z4. even though a lot of us think the Supra is a BMW with Toyota badge. But for 4 years a lot could have happened IMO.
People are taking that quote the wrong way. They did not say that Toyota's engineers separated from BMW's 4 years ago to make the Supra, they are saying the Supra engineering team separated from the Z4 team. I guarantee you the Supra engineering team was mostly BMW employees working in Germany. Listen to Tada's interviews for insights on how they worked together. Yes Toyota had engineering leads in Japan directing things on the project and making calls here and there, and certainly plenty of their own testing and tuning (and luckily some part stress testing), but the vast majority of the engineering was done by BMW for Toyota by BMW people. This car is going to have zero Toyota parts on it, except whatever they had to do to get the Toyota sense into it.

That's what that recent comment about reliability and the long talks with the warranty department was about. Not only are they worried about BMW reliability, they are trying to figure out just how they are going to service these damn things in Toyota dealerships with Toyota techs (will they even? I suspect major issues will see the cars being towed to nearby BMW dealerships)
