Although the B58 is way more reliable than BMWs of 10 years ago, I hope Toyota was able to voice their concerns with this. But as long as the car gets Toyota approved gaskets and hoses, this car should be a tank. That's the only thing that concerns me. Everything about this car is exactly what I'm looking for and I would have gotten the auto even if a manual was offered. After the reviews of how it's actually more of a great street cruiser that's good on the track than the other way around I'm liking it even more.
The 86 had it's good share of powertrain issues in the first model years, I might leave it stock for the first year just to keep the warranty incase anything happens but that's doubtful.
With that being said, there are some design issues of the BMW that I don't like.
An easy one to address from the start is the ecu and wiring in the engine bay without a box/cover. I know modern Toyota's do this as well but it is always a cause for concerns for me.
The biggest concern for me is the Vanos and timing chain on the back of the motor, meaning replacing these requires pulling the motor.
