Come on Johnny, it's all in good fun...anyone who is getting hurt by comments from an internet forum should throw their PC out the window and never get near the web again...lol. Most of us here (majority) are not going to own this car....and those who are speculating 2JZ swaps, manual transmissions, etc... are just filling the hype balloon with air. When the car is released, it will sell just like the 350Z did....it will also be a ordinary sports car, just like the 350Z was. We are all here to have fun and share jokes, opinions, etc... The way I look at these forums (not SupraMKV specifically, but in general) is like a busy bar on a Friday night....everyone is fucked up and just saying whatever stupid shit comes to mind. At the end of the night, we all leave the bar laughing together.
I agree with you. But so many people are taking this so serious. People just need to chillax until the damn thing is released. iirc, sales for the 350z were pretty good. The 370z took a drive tho. Yup, lets just all try to have some fun. 3 more months to go boys!

Well, you said Tada BELIEVES in the BMW motor. Then you say, “nothing special.” So, my question is....why would Tada BELIEVE in something not special?

Nothing special yet i mean they may have done a lot of work we don't actually know !A different turbo and remaping may be a whole different motor and the oil pump and oil pan may actually be good for a lot of horsepower..but everybody expects something more from Toyota!

The R36 GTR is going to be a BEAST!!! This is how a car evolves....take notes Toyota.

Talking exclusively to AutoCar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Nissan design boss Alfonso Albaisa said the car won’t take cues from the limited-run GT-R50 special edition on show this weekend, but “has to be its own special car”. He said it has to be “the fastest super sports car in the world” and retain a visual identity that's unique among cars of its kind. Although he’s constantly reviewing sketches for the car, Albaisa said his team can’t begin serious work until decisions are made about the power-train and the new platform is finalized. “The challenge is on the engineer, to be honest,” he said. “We will do our jobs when the time comes to make the car something really special. But we’re not even close to that yet. That suggests the new GT-R is still several years from production readiness, meaning it’s likely to arrive early in the next decade. Albaisa said that while Nissan was undecided on the power-train, he admitted that electrification was likely, albeit not confirmed. Whether we go to a lot of electrification or none at all, we can achieve a lot power wise,” he said. “But we are definitely making a new ‘platform’ and our goal is clear: GT-R has to be the quickest car of its kind. It has to ‘own’ the track. And it has to play the advanced technology game; but that doesn’t mean it has to be electric.” The electrified power-train of Nissan’s stillborn hybrid LMP1 GT-R racing car, which was developed for the 2016 World Endurance Championship but never raced, could provide a glimpse of what’s to come. That car used a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine and hybrid electric system; Nissan pulled the plug on the project before the race. If a similar system were used in the next GT-R, the boost of torque should ensure that, despite a loss of around 800cc in engine capacity compared with the current GT-R, the overall output could make it the most potent version of the super coupĂ© family to have made production.

The current car produces 562bhp in standard form, suggesting significantly more than 600bhp is possible in the next car.
“We simply have to reflect people’s dreams; and I think people dream that the next GT-R will be the hottest super sports car in the world,” said Albaisa. He said that the next car would have a muscular character like the R35 in order to retain the GT-R “beast”, adding: “It’s an animal; it has to be imposing and excessive. Not in terms of its wings, but rather its visual mass, its presence and its audacity. “It doesn’t care what every other supercar in the world is doing; it simply says: ‘I’m a GT-R, I’m a brick, catch me.’ It’s the world’s fastest brick, really. And when I review sketches for the new car, I say that a lot: “Less wing, more brick.'”

Yup! This dude is on point in every video....this is who the real enthusiasts are, not internet trolls wishing for another badge.

Btw, for those hating on him....he actually owns a R35 GTR. Respect!
yeah nah I agree with him on most of his points about the BMW Supra... but he just seems like he considers Lexus a few tiers below European cars when if you compare them Lexus quality and prestige exceeds European cars in the same tier or price point... performance numbers sure, European wins there but overall, if I want a car that will last 10 years I'm much more confident putting my money on the Lexus

hence I'm actually bypassing this Supra and saving up for second hand LC500, or a second hand 2017 R35 GTR... but the Lexus looks so nice, elegant

That's funny. i wonder how much it will cost. Also The GTR competition from TMC would be made by Lexus.

Depends on how you describe “prestige” I would reckon the European brands are far more prestigious world wide than Lexus. Not saying Lexus is inferior at all because everyone has different priorities and like you said some people like keeping their cars more than 10 years. However, in the luxury market with people with endless amount of money that is a moot point. In my experience they are around the same levels to an extent in terms of build quality, build and materials wise. I would say Porsche, Audi and Mercedes are exceptional and the new BMW’s too.

Lmao....the competition would be made by Lexus??? How about Lexus try and compete with the regular cars from Europe first, then we can talk about competing with a GTR. The GTR currently runs with or beats Bugatti's. A Lexus against a GTR would be zero competition my friend. This is coming from a realist, not a fanboy.

I know you are a realist not a fan boy. GTR competitor will be the LCF. And No the GTR is not a Bugatti competitor if we are talking stock. Also when talking price.

The aftermarket really made the r35 what it is today. In stock form it’s outdated and many of its competitors are beating it. These minor tweaks/refreshes they keep doing are not enough to keep it competitive.

Runs with Bugatti's stock....beats them with bolt-on's. When the LCF comes out, the R36 won't be too far behind for it's debut....and once again, put super and hyper cars to shame. I know there are people who don't like the GTR because it's fat, or ugly (their opinion), etc... However, credit should be given where deserved. It really is the everyday man's super car. Great bang for the buck, and brings with it an un-tainted heritage. We can't say that much for anything Toyota offers right now or possibly in the future.

They haven't had a need to change it much....since it's inception, the head engineer said Nissan would gradually update the car (interior, exterior, etc...) but nothing dramatic. I agree with him. The last thing I would ever want is to buy a $100k GTR and two years later, they revamp it completely. I understand series or generation changes, but not same generation with drastic changes....Nissan actually cares about it's enthusiasts believe it or not.

I don’t know the numbers on the Bugatti but which one? Stock for stock? Chiron? Modded, no doubt but then again it’s “faster” than majority of the cars like pagani, Ferrari, lambos, Porsche’s, etc.... personally, I don’t care about 1000 hp cars, I’ll take a cayman gt4 over a GTR any day, and I’ll take a AMG GTR, which I’ve driven and almost bought, over the Nismo GTR. Not saying it’s isn’t a great car, cause it is, but to me, I don’t find it “fun” in terms of driving and enjoyment. Again it’s all my own experience and opinion. Great that we get to have choices and Nissan still builds this car and hopefully continue to do so.

I ran into this car talk video regarding the new Supra. It's a little lengthy but they have a few interesting points especially when talking price at the 5:30+ mark.

I was watching this a few days ago as well. The trend (as expected) with all these videos, is that the MKV Supra is not bringing on the excitement that most (if not everyone) thought it would. The shelf life of the MKV will only be a few years and not because sportscars are not popular anymore, but because it’s not a real Supra.

AMG GTR's, Viper's, Porsche's and so on.... some of you guys seem to have money like the lokal farmer has hay in his barn.

Why do you even care about the new supra when you can afford all these cars?

You still don't get it do you....It's because names like the Supra and GTR and many others had raised the bar during our generation when we could not afford them. To see the Supra name come back, yet in a sad sad way makes me (and many others im sure) very angry at Toyota. I care because it's the end for what was a LEGEND in automotive industry. People can preach all they want about "it's a different generation now, or it's a different culture now...", I say that's a load of crap. Everyone was expecting a different car from Toyota, and simply put...they did not deliver.

I am not a millionaire, I work like everyone else....pay a mortgage like everyone else, save money like everyone else. The difference between me and the other guy is not how much we make to "afford" a GTR....it's how much does a GTR mean to me that I would sacrifice more money to get one. There are 23 year-old's on YouTube living in their parents basements on a $40k a year salary who own Lamborghini's and GTR's and etc... They are car enthusiasts who know what they want, and will do whatever it takes to get that. They don't just "settle" for a rebadged car! I don't know your age group, or what your experience has been with Supra's....but if you knew anything about the previous generation Supra's, you would not be shopping or interested in the upcoming MKV...or asking these questions. The new car is NOT a Supra! Please understand this and don't be offended by what I am saying.
