Question about the cold air intake:
Should I just install a new cold air intake for 3.0?
and also Does it fail state inspection?

How can we tell you if it’ll fail state inspection when you haven’t told us what state you live in?

Intakes don’t do anything on these cars but make noise. That said, I like the noises they make, so I have an intake. I’ve never lived in a state where they gave a shit about an aftermarket intake. CA probably would have a problem with it, most other states won’t care.

Eeeeeeehhhhhhh... I thought the same about the air box re: making power until I installed the MSTv2. Total butt dyno analysis, but I'll say in addition to sounding bad ass, I feel like it really did help the car make a bit more power. However, I have other engine modifications. Stock, with the couple of options I tried, I feel like it didn't make any difference but noise. So personally, I would caveat it, and say an airbox doesn't make a difference in terms of power unless you have other supporting engine modifications.

I have the MST as well. How often are you guys cleaning (or changing the filter)? Just out of curiosity. Thanks

Yes it will add more sound and some power

inspection depends on your state, the intake will not trigger the check engine light

It’s incredible how much it matters from state to state. I think it looks great and you can hear that turbo spool up. This thing won’t throw your O2 sensor, so you should be fine.

I've heard many times that Supra stock intake is good. I upgraded mine for under hood looks and the blow off valve sound. It flutters now and spool is louder too. Love it. I think it was the armaspeed. Can confirm if needed.

Does it help performance? No. Placebo at best. Car in stock form is not limited by air intake. Adding more flow does nothing besides being a very expensive gazoo. Limiting factors are the downpipe, fuel (ethanol, methanol, fuel pump), turbo (hybrid turbos, big turbos). Not until you increase those limits will you be asking for more air.

To the OP, you don't have to worry about the aftermarket intake.

I installed mine two weeks ago. I usually check or clean the filter every oil change

Installed the Dinan airbox and turbo inlet. Everything fit great. Not a huge noise difference in the limited miles I have put on it but doing a proper drive this weekend and will report back. Looks great though
