If you use CSG brake pads and care about your paint long term, make sure you use a good iron remover when washing your car after a track day.

This is after one track day with CSG C21 pads in the front. The whole side of the car has iron embedded in the paint. My PMU Club Racers also did this, any good track pad will, but at a MUCH smaller scale.

I have csg pads front and Rear and have been to the track a few times and mine isn’t this bad. Granted I do a iron remover twice a year on the car

Haven't read it in detail anywhere else, but as friendly FYI, I do not recommend using ATE Type 200 on our Supras.

Yes, I understand most will go SRF or Motul 660, but seeing as I've had good results with ATE on my S2000 that I track regularly, I figured I'd run it in the Supra as well (though the Supra maybe only gets tracked few times a year).

Did track day and while it felt "ok", the issue is what happened after. I started developing squeaks from brake pedal sounding like from master cylinder. I thought I mightve somehow blown seal and caused leak, but after some investigation on M3 forums, it was the ATE.

A handful of M3 owners brought up similar issue. I then ordered fresh Motul, did another full flush, and squeak went away. Apparently there is a low viscosity version of ATE that could try, but wasn't worth it at that point.

Holy shit ???… That’s a bit excessive. If that’s from the CSGs, I’m digging my Hawks even more ?
Trust me, My DTC60s did the EXACT same thing lol I was washing my car after at track day and noticed how much grime was running down the side of the car and thought "wait a minute, thats probably brake dust" a few sprays of iron remover later, the WHOLE side of my car looked just like Bryan's ?

Also for the love of god, Mods can we please get this thread stickied???????????

Yea, Hawks are notorious for this as well.

Indeed. I actually hate these CSG pads but haven’t shared because I know I will be chastised by the members of the echo chamber for it.
What do you dislike about them?

For me, I ran them on my GR86.
What I did not like.
- I felt like they were super overpriced as I assume they are rebranded pads from another manufacturer, maybe the compound played around a bit at the request of CSG.

- They did not have the bite that Carbotech XP12s had and I like bite, like a lot. Even my Current DCT 60s don't seem to have the carbotech bite. I like to late brake as I had to pass people on the corner entry since Corvette owners are notorious for not lifting on a straight even after giving you the point by and trying to make you look silly as in "look you wanted a point by and could not pass me lol", anyway, I like stuffing those assholes in a corner as I take the the inside line with a late brake and when you have low bite pad, this move gets a bit out of control, which makes it too sketchy for track days.

What I did like:
-They lasted forever...like they wore to 50% in a few track days and then literally stopped wearing. I thought I could keep them on a whole season. I think considering that, amortized over the many track days they last, their price is justified, as long as you like the compound.

If I’m trail braking properly, I can get a lot more out of my pads. Thus the Hawks have been pretty damn good. I would like to try the project mu’s sometime.

I'd like to try them as well. They have a pretty similar price point albeit it's Mu is a bit less than DTC60s. If they don't dust as much as the hawks maybe they'd make a nice street pad.

My housemate had them on his s2k and really likes them although his rears are literally crumbling after 7ish events at pitt race/midohio. That being said, s2ks are notorious for beating the hell out of their rears.

Something funny though, is if we're driving somewhere together and brake at similar effort with similar heat in them the squeal almost harmonizes ?

  1. They make a horrific sound on the street. Yes, I know track pads do this. However, the PMU's work well for me on track and have excellent street manners, so since I know there is a pad that works well on track (for me and the tracks I go to) and doesn't make my car sound like a trash truck on the street... well...
  2. They feel like light switches. Very little room to modulate compared to the PMU. I constantly go into ABS with these. Very very touchy.
  3. Dust like a rabid parrot. Yes, I know track pads do this, see #1 again.
  4. Price point is horrible. I can literally purchase three sets of front/rear PMU pads for the price of one set of CSG. I don't see this changing, given the amount of people in the echo chamber.

Ah that's a shame, I used to alternate ATE gold/blue to ensure full flush without wasting too much. What do people do nowadays?
I loved ATE blue. lol. I remember when they stopped selling, I stocked up on a few cans and it really made flushing a breeze.

Now, maybe my eyesight is just getting worse, but when I flush, I will usually overdo each corner and use up majority of 2L while flushing. Just to ensure I got old fluid out. I dont mind since I bought all my fluid from FCP euro, so its really not costing me anything to waste little more during flushes.

I'm sure you're referencing the Project Mu Club Racers or higher spec, but do you happen to have any insight on the Project Mu HC-CS?

I actually received my set in, and from my understanding, should be decent "hybrid pad" that has decent street manners but can handle SOME track use. I daily my Supra around 20k-ish miles per year, and maybe only go to track a few times per year.

I used a set of HC+ 800 pads years ago on the rear of my Evo. Seemed okay but rear pads don't do much anyway. TLDR: I dunno. ;)

I’ve used ATE DOT4 fluid w/out any problems. But will flush out the dirty fluid after, just like you. The Castrol SRF definitely can go longer with the higher wet temp, between flushes. Never hurts keeping your fluid fresh by bleeding.

My Hawks make little noise in town, stop great at the track and like Bryan, at ½ the cost of some other pads. I still want to try the project mu’s sometime since Bryan has had such good success with them.

Beat my previous track time with braking less & more trail braking. Tried making a full weekend on them. Wife & I driving double duty. So they were getting their fair share of track time. Hindsight is 20/20, I should have brought another set of fronts to the track. Will do that next time ?
