It's likely fine. If the fuse blows and he still has power to the dash cam.. I mean.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I used this voltage cut off circuit for extra safety. My dash cam has a Type C USB connector, install was easy with only 2 wires. To date no problems with battery drain.

Hey so I'm about to install mine with this kit. So your black wire went to ground, yellow went to the accessory fuse, and the red wire you did not connect to anything?

Or did you connect the yellow and red wire to the accessory fuse?

The routing illustration shown earlier looks like it drops the wiring right in front of the side airbag. It’s so easy to remove the a-pillar cover, that I don’t see any real point in avoiding it. Behind the a-pillar cover, there’s an existing wiring harness behind a metal shield that you can ziptie to. Personally, I think it’s worth spending an extra couple minutes during the install to ensure that there’s zero chance that your wiring is going to impede vehicle safety systems and worst case create a new safety issue if the wiring and potentially whatever it‘s attached to gets ripped rearward in the unfortunate event that the airbag deploys. This is coming from someone who’s typically all for workarounds to reduce the amount of disassembly.

This video is pretty illustrative of the process. Obviously, you can omit half of it if you’re installing a front-only camera.

I just mounted mine just below the brake light on the glass.

I didn’t, there was no easy way without the wire hanging down and interfering with your view.

The proper way to do it is going under the hatch panels and through the existing rubber boot. Way more work than the 3 beers I had in the mini fridge that day. ?

Thanks to all the contributors, it really helped with getting my Vantrue Dashcam installed on my UK car.
I found it was easy enough to get the cable in discretely even crossing the mirror to the passenger side (there is a handy groove the cable sits in) and down the A pillar without removing (ran it down the windscreen and across to the door trim at the dashboard level) cable pushed in nicely with a trim tool.

The footwell trim was a bit of a pain, there are two 10mm/torx bolts plus the plastic twist lock. You have to disconnect the footwell light and also the emergency call speaker (which creates a worrying warning on the dash!), plus its a fiddle to get in and out.

I didn't have any joy with fuse F47, I ended up using my test meter and found that the unpopulated fuse F54 worked. It is a pain to check which are accessory fuses, having to wait for the car to shut down (waiting 6 minutes).

Rear mount, running the wires from front to back was the easy part. Fishing the wires from back into the hatch was the pain part. Would help to have fish wire and/or thin coat wire on standby.
I’ll recheck my fuse panel, I ran both red and fellow wire separately into fuse panel so camera still powers down after 6 minutes but also records if it detects motion or bump for 1 minutes when car is off.
