Since the wireless charging tray is only good for warming my phone up, I decided to make a Magsafe phone mount to display OBD data on my phone. So far the mount has been holding up perfectly. I'm interested to see if any issues arise in the heat of summer but I made it out of ABS so it should hold up well. You can download the files here.

I like designing/tweaking this kind of stuff so feel free to make suggestions/requests for improvements.

Much appreciated! I will print one out in the following days and see how it mounts up. Was looking for something exactly like this so I could mount up an old phone I have laying here to use as a sensor display.

Can I get one just like that one in the picture? How much?
Honestly I wasn't really planning on trying to sell them. It's only about 25 cents in plastic to make this plus a couple bucks for a ring magnet. If you were local I'd just give you one. See if you can find someone local to you to print one for a few bucks. There should be plenty of people that offer that as a service. If you can't find anyone I can probably just send you one and you can order the magnet.

Those look pretty nice and very inexpensive if you already have a 3d printer or access to one. How do these hold up during high speed maneuvers or hard corners etc?

I will say a friend of mine had these in his Supra and when I got mine got them as well off amazon for under $14 and it comes with two.

Extremely sturdy and doesn't move at all during any auto cross or tracking according to him. I've liked it a ton as well for the amount I've used it so far with 0 issues. As far as the little metal pieces that you're supposed to put on your phone to get it to stick to the mount; I just put it between my phone and phone case and did not adhere it to anything. I've had 0 issues so far and the magnet doesn't let it slide or move around at all. I have mine mounted almost in the same spot as where you've got yours but this is adhered with 3M and I've got mine mounted right in front of the hazards button.

I haven't done any really hard driving with it yet since it's still cold here. It'll probably be about a month or two before we head to the mountains and really put it through its paces. I didn't really have track driving in mind for this so I'm not sure if the magnets are strong enough. It may be fine but we'll have to wait and see.

Sweet. I'll probably print one but modify it to take the magsafe charger. I recently printed this stand for my desk at work I left the sides exposed so that it wouldn't interfere with my case and two slots to angle the cable in the preferred direction. Just gotta take some pictures to upload it into Printables.

I was thinking of making a charger version. Do the chargers work well (hopefully much better than the charging tray in the car)? If so I'll pick one up and update the design for it.

It works much better than the tray. The 15W output really makes it charge closer to a decent wall or 12V charger but obviously not as fast as quick charging speeds. I will likely print mine with a bottom edge just to make sure it doesn't drop on me while going around the track since I wanna be able to keep an eye on several parameters. Feel free to PM me if you'd like the .stp of the stand I made so you can go nuts with it.

I may take you up on that, thanks! I can send you my step files as well if you need them.

I finally got a chance to sit down and play with combining the magsafe charger into the holder you made. I might make it a bit wider and add some honeycomb cutouts to make it look nicer but in terms of function this should be more than sufficient. Had to thicken up the front face to 7.5mm to allow for the 56.25mm diameter cutout at a 5.5mm depth. I might shrink the diameter a hair just to get a more snug fit after I get a chance to print it. Wouldn't want the whole thing popping out on the road 😅 .

For the majority of applications, ABS can be used between −20 and 80 °C (−4 and 176 °F), as its mechanical properties vary with temperature.

Some plastics emit hazardous fumes when 3D-printed. When I do get a printer, it will have an enclosure - maybe Bamboo Labs
