Looks like it only needs an exhaust upgrade to hit 382

Ah so if they keep the filter it’s not detuning that’s slowing them down, it’s likely higher back pressure limiting top end efficiency therefore reducing peak horsepower.

But even with the filter, they are running a 4.1 0-60 time? This is confusing me unless BMW wanted to make an agreement to try and sway US Market Supra buyers away to their own brand

Well I have a feeling that BMW is just quoting a faster time. I feel torque would make a greater difference for 0-60 and they have similar amounts.

Could be that Toyota doesn't want to alienate EU buyers right off the bat as they're trying to get pre-orders. Or maybe, as in the case of the 86, they really feel like that's a balanced power level and it's up to the buyer to turn it up.

Well atleast we have an engine that we can tune VERY easily.

But the torque is rated at 369, while the Supra has the same amount. I know the torque plays a strong role, but I would imagine if the Supra can get such a low time at 4.1 while restricting the flow of power coming in, what would be the time without the restriction?

3.8-3.9. At these times RWD cars start to become limited by traction not power.

I think both of those are plausible and not necessarily mutually exclusive.

If it is indeed true that the horsepower limitation on the US-Spec Supra is largely due to the Exhaust Particulate Filter, then that means that a downpipe is really going to wake this car up.

Generally, Exhaust Particulate Filters sit right after the turbo exhaust housing, right in the downpipe, and are fairly restrictive in nature. They are designed to superheat very quickly and help catalyze unburnt hydrocarbons, CO, and NOx, into water, C02, and Nitrogen respectively. Very similar to a catalytic converter, but designed to attack much smaller size particulate, hence the restrictive filter medium.

Not sure why Toyota would go for the EPF in the US model, but then again, they need to be able to bump the power in a mid-cycle refresh so this isn't a bad way of going about it. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, this aftermarket is gonna take this platform and run with it for sure.

Conclusion all you need from both the Z4 and and Supra to hit a 0 to 60 of 4.0 secs is 330hp and 369lbft. above that is where the remaining 40+hp start to show.
