EDIT:
I’ve decided to go with liqui moly 0w-20 w/ liqui moly ceratec after talking to multiple oil techs and a few people who build engines. I talked to probably 5 bmw tuner shops (all tuners said 5w-30 motul), multi oil companies, was able to get a hold of a few engineers and some local people.
Reasoning: According to the oil techs and a few guys that are up to date with modern engineering they both said the same thing. Much tighter builds where as engines used to not be built how they build now so yeah you might get more “protection” but you’re also decreasing the flow rate which the engine was not designed for. They also stated a lot of people will say 5w-30 simply due to community advise and habitual nature rather than the most up to date information.
Also, I’m just new to it so I think it would be best to get advise from some oil techs and people working on modern engineering.
I may even do oil testing over the next 10k miles and then test 0w-30 and possibly 5w-30 eventually.
This probably is not necessary at all but I genuinely want to know the facts, not opinions.

Just hit 1500 miles and doing my oil change. Called a few tuner shops and got the same answer recommending 5w-30 but one shop an older guy recommended 0w-30 since we’re in a hot humid climate (charleston, sc).
I’m running stock and plan to for the next year and I was curious what you guys think. Not tracking or redlining it but I have fun every drive. I haven’t seen many people talk about 0w-30, the guy said he would recommend that for cars with manufacturers recommending thin oil like 0w-20.
My local tuner said I could get some 5w-30 and be fine but was curious what you guys think. The 0w-30 mention from the older dude seems to make a lot of sense and be the middle ground to still have those cold starts right while getting better protection at high temps (we have fun when we drive!!)
Not trying to overthink this but really trying to understand whats the best for my scenario at the moment.
Thanks
