Happy Friday everyone,

Just got pulled over because my car was making "backfire noises and burbles". The officer then explains to me that the car DOES NOT come stock with making any of those noises. I tell him the 2020 Supra's from factory make burbles and backfires. He then proceeds to say, "ive been doing this for a while, they dont buddy". He also says the SPORT MODE button on my car is illegal to use on public roads and only on tracks and that its my responsibility as a car owner to have known that.

Luckily he gave me 3 warnings... 2 for my excessive exhaust noise (burbles/backfires) (i have a remark exhaust, and I was going 30mp so not loud by any means..) and for window tint.. I didnt want to keep arguing about him about the sport mode being for track use only cause he did say that he could have towed my car..

Good on you for not losing it when he called you "buddy." This cop sounds like a really idiot, who has never been wrong his whole life. Never heard of sport mode being illegal before hahaha.

When he did say that, I did suggest to youtube 2020 Toyota Supra so he can hear for himself but he just brushed it off lol. but at the same time I did not want to challenge him anymore cause he said I was getting a warning and he said he sees my car often cause he sits in an empty lot near me.

Probably not any videos online that get me more fired up then these cops being filmed saying crap like this. The old "I know, you dont" BS.

Jealousy is a hell of a drug. This sounds just like the Hyundai/kia crap in CA awhile ago. You should file a complaint against him for harassment if he said he knows about you and claims to have been watching your car for awhile

You have an aftermarket exhaust and window tint and are complaining about getting pulled over? lmao
If you read the post, I didnt complain about those two things at ALL and that I was grateful he gave me a warning ;)

it was more of the fact that he mentioned sport mode was illegal on public roads and for track only (read title of thread) and thinking no car from factory can make burbles.

I just have to be cautious, no more sport mode anywhere near my house lol cause he said he can write me $1000 in fines for it and tow it.

Right I get it. You are lucky he gave you warnings. Just know those pops & bangs are louder with an aftermarket exhaust. 2020 has the most aggressive burbles too. This is why I basically turned mine off when I tuned it.

I lived in California most of my life and figured out how to fly under the radar. Pro tip: When you see a cop, switch to normal mode. ;)

The thing is, a lot of these factory valved exhausts are technically illegal, in the sense that they do exceed the db limits put in place by various localities. The vehicles just aren't tested in sport mode, thus allowing them to be sold.

The supra is quiet compared to some other cars though. A Mustang GT with the active exhaust if fucking loud in track mode.

You're certainly not the first person to get a ticket because of this. Some cities have automated systems for loud noise tickets and people with stock cars have been getting tickets from them.

Probably what's going to happen is that enough people will argue that a stock car shouldn't be able to get a noise ticket and manufactures will stop building cars with valved exhaust.

I hear ya man, for me the county I am is usually VERY generous in terms of tinting and noise (i have never ever heard ANYONE getting pulled over for loud exhaust in MD) but lesson learned now!

Oh I KNOW NOW lol

This reminds me of dumb cops that pulled over G35 Coupes (with Nissan's only good sounding factory exhaust) for being too loud back in the day..

Doesn't matter how long someone does something.. if they're doing it wrong.

A while back I had a cop pull me over "because of my exhaust". When I asked him why he said that all aftermarket exhausts are illegal. I asked him how muffler/exhaust shops were allowed to be in business then. ?

Pretty sure he was new to the job as another cop came by and talked to him. When the original cop came back to my window he said nothing about my exhaust and asked if my windows were tinted, then let me go. He stayed behind to listen to my exhaust and see if it was too loud, as that's the only leg he could have had to stand on about it, but I've never liked obnoxiously loud exhausts.
